6M QRM coming to a house near you

Post by VK3ZAZ »

Happy Xmas.
6M band opened to VK4 just before
Turned beam NE over the house and heard what sounded like OTHR pulses.
About S3-5, right across 6M band and the blanker takes em out.
Then out corner of my eye could see the fairy lights my wife had hung across the front verandah.

SOLAR POWERED
Branded Environmentally friendly.

if they are set in the flash mode

QRM

about 100 feet from my antenna down at angle of 4 degrees.

NOW WHO DO I HATE???
Send their wife pressie

LOL

"Branded Environmentally friendly."
Really only means they will breakdown if they are buried under a bag of lime about 1 meter down

A cure for the noise is a little more electronic.

First measure the control box which has the small solar panel attached, then buy a diecast box slightly larger than the solar panel / box.

Second, enclose the whole lot in the box, screw the lid down tight, no more interference.

Note: You may need some finger stock around the interior of the lid to ensure nothing leaks out!

Why not put the lights plus controller plus solar panel into the diecast box then screw the lid down tight.
No finger stock required and no QRM will ever be created.
Oh, no lights showing either :D

I'd be pulling the lights out and taking them back to the seller. As amateurs we know the problems of increasing RF noise and interference and we should be doing everything we can to reduce it. Spending time and effort to fix it seems like a waste of time much better to get rid of them. Besides, it's only November and Santa doesn't need landing lights until the 24th of December.
