ZL9HR UPDATED

Post by VK3ZAZ »

Current Status:

On Oct 18th our equipment arrived from sea to the storage facility located in Invercargill, New Zealand. The team will soon begin their journey to New Zealand's southern most seaport of Bluff, participate in safety briefings with the New Zealand Department of Conservation authorities and participate in the required quarantine inspection of all equipment and personal items going to the island. Our boat is already approved for use to New Zealand owned sub-Antarctic islands.

All payments for the DX-pedition's boat transportation, landing / use permit, food, equipment shipment, etc have been made, with one remaining major task to be handled on Nov. 25th; the purchase and transport to the boat of 1,100 liters of petrol for the generators.

Each team member is paying their own transportation to New Zealand and their own living expense while in New Zealand. The team committed personal funding for the full cost of ZL9HR, which is budgeted to be $100,000.

As you may know, DX-peditions to remote sub-Antarctic islands generally cost far more than this amount, however the team has worked hard to keep the cost low considering the distances involved, much of the equipment and labor was provided by the Hellenic Amateur Radio Association of Australia.

We've been receiving support from the DX community as well as from clubs and foundations. However, even with the generosity of the ham radio community the cost of the DX-pedition far exceeds the donations.

For those who have already donated to ZL9HR we THANK YOU.

For those who are planning to make a donation the easiest method is via PayPay to:
