15 Meter interference

Post by VK3BGS »

I have been plagued with interference to 15 meters for the last few months but have not been able to identify it. It appears to be about 105 to 110 Khz apart but is still heard between these points, but becomes more of a "click" sound. It varies strength between 5 to 8 on the s meter.
Have also heard this on many spots across the HF spectrum, but seem more predominate from about 20 Mhz and up. This interference also tends to move both up and down the bands
Hoping somebody can identify it so I can get some idea for what to look for when I can df it.
I have put a sample of this interference up on YouTube.

This interference has been traced to my Optus HFC cable services, namely phone service.
I found reference to this on the internet.
Will report this issue to Optus and see what happens from here.

Thanks for the follow up.

I have had the same interference since I started in the hobby.

We have optus cable running down the street. I wonder how they will react to a non-customer making a complaint?

the ACMA recently gave a talk at the club I belong to and, if Optus won't do anything for you I think a call to the ACMA might do some good.

This problem has been solved.
An Optus tech came out yesterday and after some explanation and demonstration he was more understanding of my issue.
He came back today with a telephone line filter, that partially worked and so I asked him to add a ferrite ring as well and now have a 95% reduction in the offending interference from the CAU.
Al least it is now in the noise so not much of a problem.
Now for that 15 meter DX!!
