Fake ads on vkclassifieds

Post by vk1da »

Another bout of ads that are too good to be true has been on vkclassifieds in the past week and there is another today until it is removed by sysadmin.

The scam seems to include inserting false evidence into a chosen Qrz.com operator entry. Buyer beware.

Several methods can be used to validate a seller. One is a request for a freight and insurance cost to your suburb or town. Asking for a phone number you can call to ask detailed questions can also get a vague reply. Unless the seller is willing to talk to me, I don't want to send him any money.

Trust your instincts and if in doubt don't risk any money. Certainly no western union payments.

Following on from Andrew's comments we still have the "scam responders" to wanted advert that everyone should be aware of.

Typically about a week to ten days after placeing a wanted advert then I receive an e-mail asking if "the item" I am wanting is still needed. Whatever the item was it is never mentioned or confirmed in the text of the e-mail, although it may have been lifted from the original advert into the subject box.

The (identical) e-mails are all written in poor enlglish and perport to be coming from Spain or elsewhere in Europe with the assurance that "the item is in good repair"

Sound familier?

Another "SCAM" responder to an ad I placed on VKClassifieds.

The general text of the backwards and forwards below. I searched his email address on eBay and PayPal. PayPal specifically said nobody registered with that email address and just a no-result from eBay. The email address was giorgshinamatt@gmail.com

Since a request to him for name/call sign, the "silence has been deafening" hi hi.

His Messages:

Hello seller, did you still have the listed item for sale?

Gio

Hello mate.

Thanks for getting back to me as regards my inquiry about the listed item is for sale. i'm really keen about the purchase and i'm more than ready to purchase it. i will like to know if you are the direct seller and if you are the first owner.

I will be very grateful if u can give me a first priority and take the ad down. i will add a fee of $70 for taking the ad down.please, get back to me with more pic and the last price offer.

Kindly get back to me with ur paypal email address so that i can proceed with the payment transaction. in case u don't have an account, you can set up an account on http://www.paypal.com. it is easy, effective and safe. creating an account gives you the opportunity of linking ur bank account with paypal.

I will be waiting to hear back from u as soon as possible.

Regards

Gio Matt

I have a pick up agent that will be coming down for the pick up and i'm okay with the price. however, i'm eager to pay the full deposit after receiving ur paypal email address for payment.. what is ur paypal email address? please, let em know asap

Same here.
I had a hunch this guy wasn't legit after his first email, yesterday arvo.

And with apologies to Monty Python my exchange went like this:

I should have then asked about the airspeed of unlaiden migratory swallows, but I got bored with it then.

... I couldn't resist.
Just after I posted above, I did actually reply to his last question.

I hadn't read this thread until now, but had same scam email from him this week - so he has been busy.

I thanked him for his generous offer but declined and referred him FHI to the ScamWatch site. http://www.scamwatch.gov.au/content/ind ... mId/693900

I had it once but an insistence on a phone number and call was met with stoney silence
