3.4 GHz and 5.7 GHz to VK

Post by ZL1TPH »

May be possible .. wont happen if the gear is not ready .. a couple of picture below with the recent rebuild of the gear ..

5.7 gear is with 100 watts and low noise preamp, can hear sun noise with this setup .. note the piece of coax, it has only 0.2 db of loss ... only a 60 cm dish ... 28 dB of gain is sharp enough .. all DB6NT ..

Second picture .. 3.4 GHz .. also a 60 cm dish ... around 23 db of gain .. maybe not the best of gain, but at around 2100 km to VK, if the band is not open, you wont get thru anyway .. this rig puts out around 10 Watts, VK3XDK setup and most impressed with it's performance ...

Anyway, to cut a long story short, I can only fit so much gear in my wagon, better to have this than nothing at all .. both have 10 MHz OXCO and also can be referenced to 10 MHz portable GPS ..

Do you intend to carry 2.4 GHz as well Steve?

It would be great to try that, and your QSO with VK4OX proves it can be done.
You could have many grid squares along the eastern VK coastline! :D

Steve

Re fitting the gear into wagon. One reason I still have my LC100 after 316,000km's but even it's too small at times.

Keen to know if the dish for 5.7 is an Andrews one.

Nice gear Steve, curious to know how you're generating 100 watts !

With a big chequebook  (DB6NT)

Was that 0.2dB a calculated or measured loss, Stephen
You may find there are significant losses in the coax connectors, unless you are using silverplated or equivalent. The normal nickelplated ones get warm = loss

Tell them about defrosting the bread, Stephen

Rumour has it, he is still paying for the 100w PA...

hi all , with a view to attempting a 3.4 ghz contact across the "ditch" to ZL this coming troppo season  , I have 45W available on 3.4 ghz but am on the hunt for a one metre +/_ prime focus dish as I am currently using a 600 mm dish and as we all know gain is everything! 8) if anyone could point me in the direction of one at reasonable cost I would appreciate it greatly as I havent had much sucess as yet . cheers . mark VK2AMS
