THOR8 in Beacon mode

Post by VK2FAK »

HI All...

Was tuning around on 20m and came across ZL1FZ transmitting in beacon mode using Thor8..

Thus is not an issue in itself beside the fact that it has been running continuous for over 40 mins now..

It does not seem to be a general CQ call as this is not mentioned in the Transmission....its just giving Call Sign and City..

Anyone have an idea, or reason...

P.S Not all the digital software has the Thor mode options....so plenty of people would be hearing it but not have a clue what it is..

Update : at least 1hr now.

Hi John, according to his QRZ page, it's a beacon.

He says it's on 14.073 MHz?

Hi all....

Hi Rob...it never crossed my mind that someone would run a digital beacon in that way.....it takes up around 300hz, and as I mentioned....not all the software can decode THOR......oh well each to there own....it may start to annoy a few people...

thanks for the info..

Yikes, 300 Hz, that would cover the whole WSPR bandpass + 100Hz extra!
In comparison one WSPR TX is only 6 Hz, from memory.
