There was an M1 yesterday and another M1 at present at 0445Z

Hopefully aurora. Most likely higher ionospheric absorption at lower frequencies.VK5MTM wrote:What does this mean?VK2FAK wrote:HI all...

Re: Geomagnetic storm

Re: Geomagnetic storm
Thats not correct, its from the halo CME that occurred yesterday which produced a long duration M1.4 flare. You'll note that the Geostat alert was issued yesterday after this event.yup but it was the M8 a couple of days ago that is the cause of the storm warning
Geostat alerts are quite common, doesn't mean anything major will happen, esp only being an M1.4.
Re: Geomagnetic storm
VK5MTM Theo,
You can find out a lot of the information your looking for about solar activity and geomag storms etc on the web if you do a few searches all will be revealed to you.
Put very simply and quickly, it means that there is a chance of unusal DX, usually on 6m or 2m bands from signals reflected from the southern aurora if it gains enough energy and or intense Sporadic E or Auroral E contacts.
Try a few searches if u want to dig deeper into it, there is lots of info written on these subjects.
