Geomagnetic storm

HI all...

I see there is a Level 5 warning of a Geomagnetic storm in the next 2-4 days...

There was an M1 yesterday and another M1 at present at 0445Z

Hopefully aurora. :mrgreen: Most likely higher ionospheric absorption at lower frequencies.

yup but it was the M8 a couple of days ago that is the cause of the storm warning

yup but it was the M8 a couple of days ago that is the cause of the storm warning
Thats not correct, its from the halo CME that occurred yesterday which produced a long duration M1.4 flare. You'll note that the Geostat alert was issued yesterday after this event.
Geostat alerts are quite common, doesn't mean anything major will happen, esp only being an M1.4.

VK5MTM Theo,

You can find out a lot of the information your looking for about solar activity and geomag storms etc on the web if you do a few searches all will be revealed to you.
Put very simply and quickly, it means that there is a chance of unusal DX, usually on 6m or 2m bands from signals reflected from the southern aurora if it gains enough energy and or intense Sporadic E or Auroral E contacts.
Try a few searches if u want to dig deeper into it, there is lots of info written on these subjects.
