Re: WSPR in general

Post by VK2EM »

...Regarding previous posts saying that some bands are 'dead' most of the time...e.g. 10 and 6M!
All of my operating life, 10M has been my favourite band (DXCC)... and now I have found Digital Modes to be an excellent indicator of band conditions.
I have a computer running 'JT-65 HF' from 8am to 9pm most days, on 28.076MHz. There is hardly a day goes by when there isn't somebody active , sometime, somewhere on 10M. People say "10 is dead"! but I see some amazing callsigns on 10M, and with the use of the DSP in my FT-857D, I have decodes down to -27... and I am on the third floor of an apartment building, with lots of noisy TV's etc to contend with!
I think that maybe the problems with 'no decodes', as stated in posts above, is that there aren't any operators using that particular mode (WSPR) on those particular bands.
At this time, 0815 local, I have just decoded a W4, NS9 and VK3 at -22, -25 and -6 respectively, but as far as SSB, '10 is dead!' (at this QTH).

Bruce I agree with you re 10m I'm a pretty hard fan of 10m 144 countries worked last year with 100w including lp africa several times antartica svalbard etc what a great band. I fear the decline is starting I'm jsut glad I had a great antenna up to capture it at its finest..

WSPR on Linux (any flavour) PC, 32 and 64 bit, ARM such as Raspberry PI.

All working as at SVN release 4889. No more "crashes after a couple of days".

A memory leak was found and fixed.

Thanks Joe K1JT.

Iv been a bit intrigued with this whole WSPR stuff. one thing i have noticed though is there are not alot of WSPR Transmitters in VK6.

Is there not much interest in it on the west coast?

Im not yet in a position to have anything running yet but would love to contribute in the near future for sure.

Hi Jono,

Would be great to have another station up on WSPR from VK6. I think as you can see, the lack of response from any VK6 station here just goes to show you how much interest there is from over there.

There is the odd VK6 active on various HF bands, but apart from VK6JR, VK6XT and myself there's not much interest on 6m.
VK6DZ Derek is active on VHF/UHF (above 6).

Edit: by active, I mean Tx as well as Rx.

Thanks Andy, I was not referring to you guys of course. There is a dedicated group of guys in VK6 as Andy mentioned that do run 6m WSPR.
Much appreciated.
