HI,

I'm new at this WSJT-X stuff so if you dont like newbie questions look away.

For those still there, what should the Rx value be set at? It comes up at 901Hz and Tx is the same. Is this correct? I have the radio dial on 14.095.60 and mode set to USB. Is that correct?

PS: Every now and then I reckon I am hearing things on 14.09560. Is that likely?

Hi Compton,

That should be fine, you will see PS-41 around 900Hz and PS-42 around 1100Hz with that setting.
Drop me an email if you still have issue.

It is possible, but the tone should start at the exact scheduled times, which are:

0 30m // Mandatory JT9 and WSPR, two per hour
10 20m // Optional JT9/JT65 and WSPR – unless batt low
20 30m // Optional JT9/JT65 and WSPR – unless batt low
30 20m // Mandatory JT9/JT65 and WSPR, two per hour
40 30m // optional JT9/JT65 and WSPR – unless batt low
50 20m // Optional JT9/JT65 and WSPR – unless batt low

Hi Compton and welcome, just want to check that you are running the special version of WSJT software that has been customised for these balloon missions, the standard version will decode just fine but it will not report the packet containg the vital location data to the High altitude balloon site. The one you need is V1.5.0 -Devel

Great to see new people taking interest, the tiny signals that this software can decode will blow you away!

Yep got the X version: WSJT-X v1.5.0-devel r4475-dirty by K1JT
Telemetry is ticked.

Anyone spot errors, improvements etc? Have I got the digital gain right at 30?

That dashboard view looks very nice!

Well my Signalink box arrived from the US yesterday, and I've got it hooked up to a TS-2000.
I've downloaded the WSJT-X software and configured it best I can.
I also ordered parts to build a Windom antenna as when configured as a 40M OCF antenna it's the length of the carport, so mounting will be a little easier.
Probably the biggest issue is I am running a Mac.

Hopefully when that little balloon passes by the East Coast on It's way around the planet for the second time I'll be ready to decode something!!

Is it common to go all the way around ? What's the max flight time you have achieved?

Brian

That's a nice setup Brian,

I use the Signalink and that works very well.

These balloons don't fly that high so they are severely affected by weather. PS-30 was brought down by a storm near Madagascar, after spending 20 days in the air.

Have you been successful in getting one to circumnavigate the Planet ?

Will this be the first ?

On what band are people getting decodes. I'm listening on 20m, wondering if I should try 30m.

Hi Compton, if you have a look here http://wsprnet.org/olddb?findcall=vk3yt you can see what band is getting the most WSPR decodes - or at least what band most people are listening on...

Currently at -52.724,144.125
First packet was at -37.767,144.903, so we are just about to cross that :)

Fantastic effort Andy, round the world in 10 days

Propagation today has been below average, I guess due to recent increase in solar flux levels.

We will keep tracking

Are there any rules on transmitting outside our country boundaries? The reason I ask because those who travel overseas usually apply for an equivalent license for that particular country? Or is this a grey area due to the altitude.

Great stuff Andy.

Our kids have been watching with great interest and my daughter in particular was very excited by the news of it making the complete circumnavigation.

PS-41 lives on !

She just came back in range, the conditions have been down a bit over the last few days, but she seems to be going well :)
