I've been so inspired by this thread I've dug up my FT290R and brought it here to work.
Will see if I can hear anything in Newcastle on my 1/2 wave vertical.
Might have to mount the cradle in the car so I can listen at least one day a week while travelling.
Might be a bit hard the other four days on the push bike.

Height is might with QRP... get your self up on a high peak :)

Don't know when I'll be able to get out again, but any chance I get I will get back on a hill somewhere.

Great stuff fellas!

Just remember though, that the majority of activity on SSB is HORIZONTALLY polarised, so even tipping your vertical over at 45deg can make a huge improvement in signal strengths.
