TET-EMTRON 6m beams

Post by VK4WDM »

Hello Everybody

Is anyone using an TET-EMTRON 6m beam? I am very impressed with the workmanship of the HF vertical I just brought and the mini-beam I had a look at.

The TE6M7EL 7 el 6m beam has caught my eye  . Claimed 9.1db gain on a 6m long boom and that is about all the boom length I can cope with at my new QTH

It is a bit pricey, but so is good grade aluminium and I don't have a lot of time for cuting and drilling at the moment.

It beats me why have 7 elements on a 6M long boom when 5 is enough

Even 6 elements will allow a highly convenient 50 ohm split dipole feed point to directly connect
your coax via a current balun ... aka a bunch of ferrites slipped over the coax at the feedpoint
e.g. http://www.vk1od.net/balun/W2DU-LF1260/index.htm

Also, compare the TE6M7EL radiation pattern found at:
http://www.tet-emtron.com/products/te6m7el/te6m7el.htm

to that of:

http://www.qsl.net/dk7zb/6m/518.htm
http://www.qsl.net/dk7zb/6m/650.htm (the 6M long boom version)

... I know which antenna I'd rather be using.

If you like the TET-EMTRON workmanship, buy it ...
but set it up using the dimensions of one of the above DK7ZB 6M yagis 8)

... just take care to convert the element lengths if the TET uses tapered elements.
(I can help you with the conversion if you need).

Hi Bob

The DK7ZB design that really caught me eye is the new 6el "extreme high gain" (10.2db) on a 7.2m boom with direct 50 ohm feed.

Maybe I CAN find time for antenna building and space for an extra 1.2m length!

Hi Wayne,

Yes, it always the case that the longer yagis look just that little bit better

I built the YU7EF EF0607 recently ... 7 elements on an 8.9M boom. It almost took me longer to buy the tubing from the aluminium supplier and the miscellaneous hardware from Bunnings than it did to measure, cut, drill and assemble ...

It seems to work ...
