IC736/738 display back light bulb change/replace

Post by VK4APN »

Well, I bought the replacement bulbs to replace the LCD backlights in my trusty IC736 - I thought it was going to be simple like my IC820H. I was WRONG. It looks like I need to dis-assemble the entire front of the radio to replace them. They are in several layers deep. The exploded service manual diagram of the front panel is frightening and I can see irreplacable bits flying to various corners of the shack never to be seen again. If anyone has ever tackled this job I wouldnt mind a few pointers. I.E what really needs to be taken apart etc......

Although daunting at first, it is actually a straightforward process.

If you are going to this effort, I would consider replacing the incandescents with LED alternatives.
Will never need replacing then, whereas with more of the same, you could find yourself replacing more globes in the near future.
