IC910 fade on LCD

Post by VK4ALH »

Hi All,
I have seen reference to a "two-resistor contrast modification" for the IC910. Can someone point me to any documentation to this mod?
Thanks!

Hi Leicester,

Adam performed that mod on his IC910H. You can see the result on his blog. The camera can sometimes lie when it comes to screen illumination. Not sure how much better it looks in real life.

Hi Leicester

I'm busy pursuing other interests at the moment, but that might make a good video topic in the near future.
Need to get the channel view hours up, so I can also bombard people with ads!

Hi Adam,
I was wondering if there was a document of some kind with the information I need.
If you produce a movie of the fix I will definitely watch some of the ads that go with it!
In my case the issue is that on the top row of the LCD the first digit fades after about 15 minutes, such that "1296.1" would appear as "269.1". The depth of the fade changes as other characters change, i.e. as I tune the frequency, causing different digits to display, the amount of fade alters.

That's exactly why no documentation was produced detailing resistor A = xx ohms and resistor B = xxx ohms.

The optimal values for my LCD were determined by experimentation, and after learning about how LCDs work.
It's certainly not fit this resistor and that resistor value.

I might produce a video later in the year for the technically orientated hams, to guide them in the right direction, but the mod process certainly won't be suitable for the "Facebook type crowd" (if you know what I mean!) who want instant gratification with no effort. Experimentation will be required, which is in keeping with the spirit of the hobby.

Stay tuned.

Hi Adam,
Thanks for the update.
I look forward to what you come up with. however in the meantime, I would like to know which are the two associated resistors so that I can assess my next steps. I am comfortable with experimenting but am hoping not to have to "re-invent the wheel" if you have information to pass on.
