Announcement: SE VK4 MAD – July 26, 2020
SE VK4 MAD – July 26, 2020
With COVID-19 restrictions continuing to relax, but as borders remaining closed [and we can't go to Gippstech], it’s about time we all went MAD!
VK4CZ/P - Kamarun Lookout [June 2020] VK4CZ/P, VK4UH/P, VK4MIL/P - Gus Buetel Lookout [Feb 2020] VK4XD/P using VK4CZ/P - Kamarun Lookout [June 2020]
MAD’s are an opportunity for uWave enthusiasts to venture far and wide to operate on the Amateur Radio bands from 1.2 GHz up.
Brisbane VHF Group is proud to announce that Sunday July 26, 2020 has been earmarked as the next SE VK4 MAD – Microwave Activity Day.
As we’re just a month out, it’s time to start your planning. Consider:
- What bands you’ll be activating
- Which hilltop location you want to travel too
- What the path profiles to other activators looks like
- If you have a correct /P profile on vkspotter.com
- If you can introduce anyone else to uWaving!
Please remember, coordination on social media is like herding cats…. Your post, or comments may be lost for eternity. Only post your plans on vklogger.com
Catch you on 1.2GHz and above on Sunday July 26!

Re: Announcement: SE VK4 MAD – July 26, 2020
My apologies for this weekend as I now won't be able to play microwave on the 26th. I will be in Rockhampton on that weekend and sorry to say I won't have room to carry any gear with me to try a 600Km QSO . Mt Archer in Rocky would be a great spot to try from.
I'm not too sure how many up this way will be on microwave that day as SCARC has a HASH lunch on that day ( HASH = Hams At Someones House) so there might not be much activity up this way.
Hopefully I will be around for the August 23 on 23 MAD which falls on a Sunday.

That will be one hell of a drive. QF53TC is in the Pacific Ocean!

I'll jump in and also confirm on behalf of Doug VK4OE that he'll be operating from the very Eastern edge of the Maleny escarpment... with LoS to Kamarun Lookout
Re: Announcement: SE VK4 MAD – July 26, 2020
I'll see whether I can get the 47 GHz gear ready given Doug is LOS from Maleny to Kamuran.
Cheers,
Peter

Re: Announcement: SE VK4 MAD – July 26, 2020
Gabriel Conesque from the WX Bureau - WX update this morning has put the rain [currently at Esk and moving east] will hit a depression that is forming of the SE Qld coast and will halt the progress of the rain. This will result in the peak of the rain Sat and Sun with 'heavy rain potential along coast areas].
Looking great for garden, but not for MAD!
Due to the time required for travel, we'll make a call on Sat evening as a final confirmation.

Unfortunately, due to the predicted rain, the July MAD has been cancelled.
Even though currently blue skies here, my site at Kamarun Lookout still under the rain bands...
