Adam wrote a summary of how an extra band might be added to this radio. Didn't fully absorb it but it's gone now.

Re: Icom IC-9700 2.4 GHz band addition
The IF of the 1200 MHz band wasn't convenient (311 - 371 MHz), so it was flawed.
Will be easier to add a low level 70cm TX port SMA.
Nothing to see here... move along.

Re: Icom IC-9700 2.4 GHz band addition
A request that I send through to Icom head office included a request for a 'transverter' option in the software similar to what the ts2000 has. So with a press of a button (soft button) the screen would display the target freq and the radio would set the max power output to 5w (or what ever you'd like it to be, 1w etc).
A few emails back and forth and they agreed it could be done in software.
I suggested that 3 transverter setting would be beneficial for sales (us microwave blokes would love it).
Whether it's a feature that they will implement in the first firmware or later firmwares time will tell.

Great to hear you got a response Jason.VK1JA wrote:A request that I send through to Icom head office included a request for a 'transverter' option in the software similar to what the ts2000 has. So...
Whether it gets passed onto the project manager in Japan is another thing though.
I must admit I never bothered to submit any wish list, as the Oceania region would be a small (and ever shrinking) market segment for them, of no financial concern at all.
It's always good to mention that a competitor's product already has feature XYZ, especially something as old as the TS-2000.
