TS2000 2m PA device Type

Hello Brains Trust

The Kenwood TS2000 series of transceivers used different output devices in the 2m PAs on different production runs. I believe Kenwood moved to FETs in later models.

Can anyone help to identify which was used in my model from a serial number? Or direct me to where this info might be found

Mine is an early'ish model Serial Number 30600203 bought new through a major dealer around 2001

According to technical service supplement dated 2002-2, from what I can see the TS 2000 with a serial no 30600203 or greater use PA Board X45-360-XX(A/2) with 2SC1972 transistors for 2M.

All doubt is removed.

Which may involve changing the bias arrangement, so be careful.

Partially correct.
Being only a ~10W device, a pair of 2SC1972 are utilised as drivers, as indicated in the block diagram, with a pair of 2SC2694 as the 2M PA developing the ~100W O/P.

Time to get all teary and sentimental... my TS-660 (circa 1980's) used a 2SC1971 as the driver, and a pair of 2SC1972s in the PA.
Damn things kept blowing, and genuine spares were hideous expensive to buy through Kenwood Australia.
Even back then!
On the third replacement, I pissed the 660 off for it to become somebody else's problem.
Why you never buy 2nd hand radios!

How is your Portuguese?
This TS-2000 owner must have some 'fake' 2SC1972s.

My model has the the bipolar devices almost certainly judging from the serial number and date of manufacture. The FET version did not come out until much later
