Re: FT8 version 2 is coming
I have been up on 17m and a lot of EU have already come across to 2.0.
Im hoping the SA 6m DX will also be on 2.0. I will run JTDX also so I dont miss anything

Re: FT8 version 2 is coming
6m has been open well today across the Tasman and further north.
80% of the FT8 station heard today were successfully running the new Ver 2.0
I respectfully urge everyone to be patient during this transition as the two modes are not compatible which means we wont get a decode from stations running the other version from lour own.
Eventually we all need to run the same mode across the whole world and realistically that means we will have to adopt the New and drop the old. There is no downside in terms of operating. the new mode does have improvements and advantages.
The earlier we are all back on the same page the better as far as I can see

Re: FT8 version 2 is coming
Well the upgrade to Ver 2 well fine except for the SSL bit, but the manual copy worked.
The upgrade of JTAlert-X was more problematic.
My current PC is running Win 8 (long story about a legacy application) and the new .NET runtime isn't supported on Win 8.
So I am on the horns of a dilemma about jumping to Win 10 and losing the legacy apps or getting a new machine to run in the shack.
So I think I'll have a and think about it.

FT8 version 2 is HERE folks!! Change or be left behind!
The changeover on 40m as recvd from my part of the world in the last hour is between 40-50%....globally.
I struggle to understand why some folk are so reticent in making the change. Perhaps I'm mistaken in thinking that hams are totally willing to embrace new communications methods.

Re: FT8 version 2 is coming
I have fixed this confusion ...
i have been using JTDX for yonks version 1.8 approx
Updated my WSJT to 2
Same rig, same usb cable, it takes maybe 10 to 15 seconds to change between the 2 programs
Should work until everybody is sorted
If I can hear via ear some stations i cannot decode, quick change all sorted..
I should not miss 7Q7 now on 6 metres if he drops into of77xx west of the railway line

Re: FT8 version 2 is coming
Today most stations on 6m FT8 appear to be on WSJT Version 2.0
Re: FT8 version 2 is coming
Good to hear Murray! Unfortunately we here "West of Everywhere" had no prop today, so I couldn't gauge the take-up.ZL3MH wrote:Today most stations on 6m FT8 appear to be on WSJT Version 2.0
Someone remarked on the 6m iChat that V2 would need some evaluation. It doesn't need any more evaluation, the previous RC versions over the past several months have resulted in the stable release as we now know it (as of the 10th Dec.)
I will no longer use earlier 75 bit versions, although I do hope that it's not too long before Igor and his team upgrade JTDX as it has a far better GUI in my opinion.

The sooner the better JTDX gets upgraded. Re: FT8 version 2 is coming
Yet another good day with moderate Es (drop the apostrophe folks!! ) and almost all sigs here in the West were V2.
None of the sigs were suitable for SSB apart from one or 2 ZL stns which were particularly strong for a period.

Re: FT8 version 2 is coming
thanks to all who have made the conversion to the new FT8, hope it goes well for the rest of 2018 and into 2019 and beyond.

Re: FT8 version 2 is coming
My experiences with the changeover.
Finding the link I downloaded the software. Checking our internet speed ( we have glass to the modem) i saw 84MB/s but the wsjt was only downloading at a dreadful 11k/bps.
After the download i ran the install and noted lots of errors, clicking ignore I saw a message download successful. Yay..
Not all was well, no desktop shortcut, when I found WSJT V2 run file the older version opened.
I then searched all wsjt programs and deleted the lot, reloaded the v2 and from there success..
Setup was not required as all 1.8 parameters were transferred to V2.
I'm no PC guru as many of you will know but like most things in this world persistence pays dividends.

Re: FT8 version 2 is coming
A few minutes ago I did a test on 14074 FT8 running both V1 and V2 decoders (WSJT 2.0.0 and JTDX)
In a 5 minute period using an omni antenna I decoded 118 V2 signals and only 37 V1 signals.
This is the highest V2/V1 ratio I have seen on 20mx.
The change is accelerating.
On 6mx in VK/ZL it seems to be close to 100%.
I have not decoded any V1 stations on 6mx in the last couple of days.

I have noticed all 6m have gone to v2.0
VK/ZL That I have seen up to now!

Re: FT8 version 2 is coming
Finally some news on the JTDX home page regarding V2.
"JTDX FT8 77bit
implementation currently in progress, updates and step releases will be notified and posted when ready."
No timeframe given.

Re: FT8 version 2 is coming
I am very very surprised how quickly everyone has changed over the Version 2.0
Re: FT8 version 2 is coming
It was a surprisingly good take up rate ...considering some are still on WIndows XP
Re: FT8 version 2 is coming
Am now on V2.0 with out any problems. Am on 6M day time and 160M overnight
Re: FT8 version 2 is coming
Bloody weather.
A week or more ago I installed 2.0 and made a few contacts.
Pretty much since then every afternoon or evening when I have had a chance to have a play, there has been a severe thunderstorm warning. Including right now!
Oh well, I'll have to wait out the storm season - I don't know how you folk in the tropics get on air

Arrrgh. Severe thunderstorm warning, just when I had an hour or so available to play radio.VK2CSW wrote:Bloody weather.
