Sydney 70cm repeaters at GPT

Post by VK2LK »

Hi all,

With the combined effort of several HAM operators, as well as the generosity of Metwide communications and Justin, VK2CU, there are now 4 operational repeaters at Governor Phillip Tower in the Sydney CBD.

We all now have access to FM, P25, DSTAR and now a DMR/MotoTRBO repeater that is linked into the global DMR-MARC network. The repeaters are as follows:-

VK2RCG - 439.8000/434.8000 (91.5Hz) Narrow FM repeater, linked to Horsely Park repeater on 439.7500
VK2RCG - 438.2000/432.8000 (NAC 0x293) APCO P25 repeater
VK2RCG - 439.5000/434.5000 DMR/MotoTRBO DMR MARC repeater
VK2RBV - 438.7750/433.7750 DSTAR Repeater

Please check these repeaters out and let us know what you think!

Cheers,
Matt

Excellent!

Well done to all involved.

I used the D-Star machine last time I was in Sydney, and of course, I have used the P25/analog machines many times.

All are excellent.

Well done guys, the analog repeater linked to Horsley Park is a cracker. Getting 4 in such a prime spot is a great accomplishment!

It's been talked about - though Horsely Park would be a better spot as there's less RF out there..

Our BMARC clubhouse, has internet, is a 2m APRS possibility.

Though, not so good on 70cm as we are in a slight dip.

The (at the moment) top antenna is a 6m 1/2 wave connected into an RTL2832 USB TV stick
on the club Banana Pi http://club.bmarc.org

(the Banana Pi is a dual core Raspberry Pi clone with SATA disk, this one, 250Gb)

Hello Matt/Justin

Just programming a DMR radio at the mo - can you confirm that the DMR machine uses a 5 or 5.4 offset?

The DMR marc page says 5.4....

Yes, the GPT is a great site, but:

Can someone suggest what DMR or P25 can do from a mountain top site with
simple gear? (one antenna, a radio <5W, Raspberry Pi if needed, battery, solar panel)
(no bulky cavities)

We need coverage, in the mountains.

Now, If nothing, please write, "cannot do". Silence is not useful.

I beleive DMR is best when it has reliable internet access. Does your mountain have this? If so then you would provide great coverage complimentary to the GPT site.

May have been out there...
FYI the RCG/RHP link for NBFM has been defunct for quite some time now.
RHP is only P25 Digital.

Sydney 70cm repeaters at GPT

Post by VK2LK »

Well, almost. At the time the quoted post was made, in 2015, the information was correct.

VK2RHP consists of two repeaters, one DMR and one P25.

The analog frequency for VK2RHP has since been converted to a Brandmeister linked DMR repeater after the analog network was decommissioned.

I recently aligned the Horsely Park P25 repeater after it was discovered to be nearly 1.3KHz off frequency. An Ultra High Stability Oscillator was installed and after a tune up the repeater has been performing much better.

Cheers,
Matt.
