VK5RBV 146.825 replaced with Yaesu DR-1X

Post by VK5PJ »

Hello,
today we have replaced the TAIT base station with a Yaesu DR-1X repeater in the Barossa Valley (PF95) 146.225/146.825.

We left it sitting in AUTO - AUTO mode for any one wanting to try the Yaesu digital voice.

So far performance seems to be up on the old TAIT, we did find the RX module in the TAIT was microphonic and wandered off in frequency at times.

All reports welcome to vk8zlx@gmail.com

Regards,
Peter Sumner, vk5pj

DR-1X, AC fail indication.

Our DR-1X (purchased April 2016) does not have the AC power supply. Only DC.

So, how do we make it run low power and somehow indicate it's on battery with
no mains or solar power?

Hi Peter

Just wondering how you guys are going with your Repeater. Ours down in the south (VK5RSC) seems to be going along well. We put the 91.5 tone on analogue TX/RX to save people from hearing the Digital hash on analogue radios. Are you guys noticing any issues without having the tone?

Have not listened to it much since its been in, not much of a FM user and our repeater is usually so quiet. We have a 91.5Hz sub tone on TX so sounds like the config is the same. We still have a crackling noise in the receiver so it has to be a fault in our cavities, turns out the only reason we ended up with the current ones is that they had suffered a lightning strike... guess that's the obvious fault then LOL

Hi Peter, We had a similar crackling issue with VK5RSV repeater a couple of years ago. It was resolved by cleaning the N connector to cavity mounting surface on each cavity. A thin film of white corrosion had appeared. At the time it was a bit tricky to track down.

Cheers,
