Does anyone have the metric formula for calculating number of turns, given required inductance and wire diameter, coil diameter, air wound single layer.
I have doubts about the one I am using re its accuracy.

Formula for calculating no. of turns
Re: Formula for calculating no. of turns
Allan,
Not quite what I am after.
I want a formula that calculates the number of turns given the diameter of the coil, the diameter of the wire, and the inductance required.
In other words, I know the inductance...how many turns on a coil diameter of x and wire diameter of y and a pitch of z.
Cheers

Hi Nev,
I left out the some trial and error might be required....
Ah well.

I think this may be the one you are after:

or this one:

Re: Formula for calculating no. of turns
Thanks all for your suggestions.
Terry, the first one you suggested ( the pronine one ) is the most suitable but unfortunately it is online. I compared it with the one I use and the results are almost identical so I can stop looking.

Re: Formula for calculating no. of turns
It's Java Script so just grab the source and run it in a saved page locally. I haven't had a close look but should be possible to do quite easily.VK3LU wrote:Thanks all for your suggestions.
