Ron, the ATN log periodics were the finest dummy loads money could buy.

In the early 90's I had a 8 element ATN 6M log, and within 18 months it was ratted for parts and re-birthed as a 5 element NBS design, which worked significantly better.
My understanding is the ATN 6m logs were a bad copy of the KLM logs.
The KLMs enjoyed a good reputation at the time, however.

The tubing sizes ATN used meant it was a relatively heavy antenna.
This in itself will place greater stresses on your mounting scheme and rotator.

If you want coverage for 50 MHz SSB and 53 MHz FM then consider a beam @ 50 MHz, and vertical for the FM segment.
If you want something of modest size that "just works", the m2 6M5X is a no-brainer.
I used a 6M5X clone in Broome 2002, and it out performed VK6JQ's 6 element NBS.

Sorry, have just had a rummage through the filing cabinet and I no longer have the mechanical diagram for the ATN dummy load to share.

Hi Ron,
the 8 element can work okay and many are still out there in use, the 11 element was a disaster.

I know vk5gf and vk5acy have them in use, I have details for the 11 element ATN only as I never owned an 8. My 11 became a W1JR 8 element on the long boom. Good luck Ron.
