23-on-23: Wednesday Sept 23, 2015 8:00pm AEST (10:00z)
The next 23-on-23 activation event is just a fortnight away, providing another opportunity to activate our 1,296MHz capabilities.
The suggested format is to continue the 'new' approach which was utilised in June and July generating relatively good feedback by focusing our attention to either the north or south during the two assigned time slots. So lets continue!
Phone/CW
Start time: 10:00z / 8:00pm AEST / 9:00pm ADST
Stations in BNE and more southern stations beaming north
08:00pm - 08:30pm / 10:00z - 10:30z
QRG: 1,296.100MHz
Stations in BNE and more northern stations beaming south
08:30pm - 09:00pm / 10:30z - 11:00z
QRG: 1,296.100MHz
Digital
Start time: 11:00z / 9:00pm AEST
QRG: 1,296.225MHz (Mode JT65)
(Unfortunately this 23-on-23 activation event falls within the school holidays, and there's a high likelihood that I will be unavailable but if I can be there, I will)

Well I'm only a 50/50 chance of going out portable for this one as well. I will be doing everything possible to get on air that night and if I can get out it will be my usual spot on top of Buderim.
That night also happens to be the same night as the SCARC 23cm FM net on our 23cm repeater starting at 7:30pm so if there are any early birds around and you can point your beams north have a listen on 1273.300 for the SCARC 23cm repeater off set is plus 20Mhz with 91.5Hz tone. It's not a high power repeater but some people from Brisbane can hear it.
Cheers

I will be portable at peregian water tower again . I was Rx only last time and heard most stations quite well when they were looking north . The new transvertor has arrived and I will be trying a 9 element Yagi vs grid pack . Thanks Daryl VK4ADM for sparking my interest after being QRT for the past 10 years

Unfortunately this months 23on23 night is clashing with the regular monthly meeting of the BVHFG.
I will see if we could get on air from the club meeting

Had a great but cold night up on the hill
Worked VK4ADM,VK4RY and VK4ALH on the Sunshine Coast
Worked VK4AFL and VK4VU in Brisbane
Heard Grant VK2MAX but my 2 watts just didn't cut it but really happy that I could hear him on AE
Thanks all for the contacts and activating 23

Well unfortunately my night out portable got cancelled due to the arrival of some unexpected visitors. I had some family members who are on holidays at Bribie Island decided to pop up for the evening so that brought my night to a holt. I was all packed and ready to go by late arvo. Sounds like I missed a pretty good night although it was a bit nippy with the threat of rain. Will have to wait until next month.

We had a Sausage Sizzle planned at the Armidale Club house with special guest Theo Kalkandis VK2AP from Icom Australia, so we weren't able to join in at all. I did manage to work Grant VK2MAX a couple of weeks ago on 23 SSB from our motel here in the centre of Armidale.
There are a few of us from Armidale Club getting established on 23cm now. As well as myself, there is Richard VK2EIK, Steve VK2SL, Norm VK2TOP and Wayne VK2KWM has the gear just needs to stick an antenna up. So that's 5 of us down here in the Armidale Club having a go on 23cm. Hope to work some of you when the planets line up.

Rick that is very good re upcoming 23 cm stations in the Armadale area & depending on equipment especially antenna department AE should be no problem at all in the absence of any other enhancement.

Fantastic news Rick... whilst it was a shame I couldn't be a part of this weeks activation event, I did however take the time to enjoy the piece and solitude of camping for a few days near Jimna, mid-school holidays and no crowds.... absolute bliss!
The levels of activity on 23cm in SE VK4 and NE VK2 are certainly on the rise. Hopefully the continued development of the 23-on-23 activation events will continue to play a role in this, as the correlation with the level of activity and these events so far is fairly compelling in support of their continuation.
It certainly makes the effort in continuing to build and develop our 23cm capabilities worthwhile. For me, the LNA and 74 el yagi will hopefully be on tower soon (once I get through my holiday chores list)!
But I am slightly bemused that the concept hasn't taken off else where in VK and ZL. More specifically in VK3... or is there already ample 23cm activity there between Field Days?
(as for VK2... hard pressed to raise a sole on 144MHz via AE now days, let alone anything higher.... does VHF and up operating still exist ins VKs largest capital city? - that maybe a subject for another forum thread )
