You're getting into Sats at the right time with quite a few new sats going active in the next 12 months (EO-79 & 80 -

Off the top of my head, current active sats are;
AO-7 (linear)
FO-29 (linear)
SO-50 (FM)
AO-73 - but I think this one is only active while over the US
There are also talks of a new HEO (Highly Elliptical Orbit) sat going up in a few years which, once operational could have a footprint of ~1/3 of the earth
