EME on both 10 ghz and 23 cms

Post by VK6RK »

I'm assembling equipment for two projects at NCRG in Whiteman Park.
So far we have a 3.5 mtr dish for 23, a septum feed and an amp at 300 watts which is in process of being built.
For 10 ghz we have a 1.2 mtr focal point dish with circular feed and the offer of one or two transverters, one with 2 watts.
Basically what I'm after is opinions on the proposed systems from those in the know.
I was an active microwaver back in the early 80's in the UK but since emigrating to WA back in 87 I've been very much out of the loop.
I'd appreciate the advice.

Hi Keith
I am only QRV 23cm, here a 3.6Mx dish, 150W PA behind the dish, septum, and a G4DDK preamp. You will have no problems on JT or CW...in fact I reckon 300W here would give me 'parity'.
GL with the project, look fwd to working my first VK6 soon.........

yes Phil is right you wont have a problem with that dish and that power for CW . I was working similar stations today with the 5m here. also expect to work stations on JT65C down to around the 2 metre diameter depending on their output power.

as for 10 GHz i am just gearing up for that now and am interested in the feed you have if you can post pics or diagrams

i have a demi 3cm 3 watt amp to mount on the back of the dish here

Thanks Dave & Phil,
I will take a pic of the feed and the dish tomorrow and post it, providing I have the time.
( my eldest daughter is in labour as I write this with my 2nd grandchild so who knows what tomorrow my bring !)
We have been given 4 of these 1.2 mtr prime focus dishes so I may even attempt a station at home.
It's really nice to be back on the " good " bands
I'm also looking forward to the " chirp" mode being put forward by VK3OE and VK6APH, interesting stuff.

I cant believe three and a half years have passed and I'm now almost finished assembling the dish and feed for 23 cms :(
Where did the time go ?
The amp is still half built and I've accumulated more gear for both 23 and 10 ghz,but still not on the air.
Being self employed and trying to get ready for retirement certainly gets in the way of radio projects :(
Oh well, the dish should be up at the home qth in the next month and then receive tests can be started on 23 cms at first.
Life is sure passing by quickly :(

Subject: [wsjt-devel] ISCAT-B off the moon on 10GHz answered

Hi All

FYI, I have just been experimenting with ISCAT-B on 10GHz EME using r5637 on 5 sec periods with some success:

201510 2 -8 4.2 0 0 * HELLN LOON 11 1 9 0.0
201520 4 -6 3.7 0 0 * HELLO MOON 11 1 10 1.1
201530 1 -7 3.1 0 0 * MOOO-HEKKO 11 0 8 5.6
201540 3 -2 2.6 0 0 * GDLLO/MPON 11 0 10-15.0
201550 1 -5 2.6 -22 0 * FML0/MOOX- 11 1 10 -0.7
201600 2 -6 2.6 0 0 * N-HELKO MOO 11 1 8 5.6

Signal spread 120Hz.

Joe K1JT replied, erroneous letters are only out by one eg. HELLN the N should be O

I (Alan VK2ZIW) have asked, what O/S is the WSJT running on. I'm having crashes on Fedora 21.

You will find most stations use windozzze, if you have trouble with linux, then dont keep beating your head on the screen, just run W7 instead.
Works fine, no dramas.

I am wondering how Keith is going, please let us know when you want a test signal via the moon.
