But in any case, looks like Chris N3IZN in California is having a good time atm with a tropo path to Wil KH6IMB over at Hawaii @ 4061 km

Looks like nothing real strong there yet for Chris & Wil, but good to see in any case.
No doubt the other Californians are trying to get through also.

When I find out the equipment at each end I will update the post, or perhaps Chris may see this.

Smashed my 2m WSPR world record by about 1000 km
What mode
SUMMER ES?
or TROPO
cant conclude much from one series of reports IMO
it might be location location, where are all the other myriads of W6s who live and populate 2M band
likes of K6MYC Friant with four stack EME yagis etc etc.
Too little information to draw any conclusions IMO
KH6IMB might be at sea level then he also might be at the HMB beacon site on the mountain.

432 would be really exciting.
The 2M W6 KH6 path has existed for decades[/quote]

http://www.ok2kkw.com/kh6ku/ok1vr58eng.htm for a bit of the history.

From the duration of the event, troppo seems very much more likely. And you're right about HASL too Steve, many times I've experience being locked out of ducts because I was too high or too low. The W6 - KH6 path is known to experience the same.

The path has been worked on all bands up to 5760Mhz.

Very interesting comments. For clarification, I am near the summit of Kilauea Volcano, elevation 4000 feet. As I am very new (as in - 1st time?) to 2m WSPR Super Long Path, I had been interpreting the term "Tropospheric Ducting" to be a single phenomenon. But should the terms be separated as being one or the other? Are they two different propagation modes? I too am wondering why I was able to decode only Chris the entire 24 hours. Will try to put up a low 432 yagi early tomorrow and be operational soon thereafter. 73

Nice to hear from you Wil.

Tropospheric Ducting is a single phenomenon.

The propagation can be quite selective sometimes depending on whats happening with the weather. Chris is a lot further south than the majority of the other Californian's that I saw on the map. I dont know the Hawaiian path too well or the weather pattern, but if there was a low pressure trough for example, between Chris and the other stations, its possible for the propagation to only exist on one side of the trough and not the other.
I think Chris has indicated the propagation is supposed to get better toward Saturday for the stations further north, so the weather system could be moving further north to then include those more northerly areas.
Presume your aware of the Hepburn Tropo charts for your area http://www.dxinfocentre.com/tropo_enp.html

Good luck, will keep an eye on things.
