Sticky for through the hole antennas

Post by VK4BXI »

Hi I have just un-earthed my 2 metre/70cm through the glass antenna. I need to get a new "kit" for it to mount on my new vehicle. Please who will supply such locally? A search of the state side stores priced one at about $10 but wanted $20 for shipping by weight ! (for a few grams!!##!!)

Hi Bob..
Use some thin double sided tape ,otherwise go and see you local carphone installer as they use on-glass aerials for in car kits.

GME used to supply the special tape otherwise RF Industries .

Do you have a two -way radio specialist close by ?

Not sure, being new in the area (Brisbane south) and in the country as well everything is a challenge from a ham point of view. The money available needs to go far (per ham rules) I will start looking for an installer.

I think it's the 3M VHB stuff you want (they use it to stick spoilers etc. to cars.) and usually one side of the removable PVC is red in colour.

I bought a pack of strips of the stuff about 20mm wide and have used it for the same purpose, as well as fitting mobile phone holders to the dash, mike holders etc.

This looks suitable for your purpose:

You can get the same tape locally and probably quicker, but it will cost you more. Search ebay for 3m VHB in car & truck parts.

I use very similar if not the same 3M sticky with a red side to mount my GPS reciever for APRS to the windscreen with any issues.
