Callsign versus Licence grades...
Callsign versus Licence grades...
While it is clear that an individual cannot apply for a callsign which is designated for a 'higher' grade than their COP, what is not so clear is whether an individual can hold a callsign from a 'lower' grade than their COP. It seems there is no limit as how many callsigns you can have as long as you pay the fees.
For example - can an Advanced grade licensee hold a callsign from the Standard grade range ?
Why ? - I hear you ask. Well - perhaps the individual wants a callsign which is associated with their own interests. For example, if someone is interested in astronomy they might want VK2SKY (which IS an advanced callsign - and taken). But what if the 3-letter combination is a Standard callsign - like VK2LAC if you were a dairy farmer...

Re: Callsign versus Licence grades...
Given the debate about greenhouse emssions, might the dairy farmer not want VKxFART?

Re: Callsign versus Licence grades...
should be no problem as long as you abide by the conditions of that license..............
Re: Callsign versus Licence grades...
Alan, at the risk of steering the thread in another direction (please don't) I would point out that some people think that the whole idea is bull---- and just a way of milking research funding by beefing up their findingsGiven the debate about greenhouse emissions, might the dairy farmer not want VKxFART?

Peter - in your case you hold certificates for both Standard and Advanced licences.
What would the scenario be if someone only had the Advanced certificate (say a legacy AOCP) and nothing else..?

Re: Callsign versus Licence grades...
I herd (sorry) somewhere some blokes chewing the cud (sorry again) over this some years ago re holders of standard or advanced licensees not being qualified to get a foundation license unless they pass the practical exam as that is part of the qualification?
I don't know why anyone would want to anyway but if you are in the moood (sorry) to try, let us know how you go ay?

Re: Callsign versus Licence grades...
This thread is becoming cattlestrophic. Sorry to horn in like this but some of these old puns ring a bell, I dairy say.
My two squirts into the bucket - Your callsign should reflect your class of licence - that whey there is no confusion.
I will now return and cower in my corner, before some one comes and whips me till I scream.
