CW Memory Keyer

Post by VK4GJW »

Greetings one and all,

I am trying to find myself a decent CW Memory Keyer (or kit that I could build) that I can use with my IC-7200. It doesn't have to be super duper fancy, but at least do the basics and have at least four memorys. I would like it to be standalone if possible too. I have seen a number on the interweb, but still being relatively new to the CW scene, I am willing to be informed by others that are far more conversant with these types of things and have real life experience with them! So if you know of any, or have any ideas about them, please let me know. I dont mind buying from overseas if I have to. Would love to support Australian made, but not sure if there are any. Let me know what you guys/gals think.

Have you considered an Arduino-based keyer?

Eg

https://www.wrbishop.com/ham/arduino-ia ... generator/

http://www.pa3hcm.nl/?p=1010

https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set ... 853&type=3 and the kit http://www.hamshop.cz/open-cw-keyer-c27 ... eyer-i196/

Even if you don't get a kit Arduino boards are widely available and only a few extra parts are needed.

Have a look at the keyers from Http://www.hamcrafters.com.
I have a K42 CW Keyboard and its fantastic. It uses a PS2 keyboard which is the only bugger but you can drive it from a straight key or paddle as well.
You don't need a computer connected to it as its all in one small box. It also decodes but don't but it for that as you will be disappointed.

I think it was about $102 US and for me well worth it.

I have built and used these keyers.

http://k1el.tripod.com/K42_C.html - pros can use keyboard, reasonable CW reader, bit expensive, well finished case.
http://www.idiompress.com/k5.php#kit - still works well over 20 years old technology now.
http://www.hamgadgets.com/ULTRA-PICOKEYER - this is their latest incarnation and is a very well developed and mature product now. I have built 2 of the now discontinued models. Pretty cheap/value for money and Hamgadgets are a pleasure to do business with. My choice of the day.

Good Luck

Hamgadgets used to sell the MasterKeyer Mk-1.

It is a brilliant keyer, if not the best.

Unfortunately they were discontinued and I was extremely lucky enough to purchase one new before its demise.

If you ever come across a second hand/used model snap it up.
