23-on-23 May 23, 2015.... and 2.4GHz plus activation?
The May 23-on-23 event will fall on a Saturday.
This would allow time to head to the hills, spread out and to operate portable. Potentially overcoming some of the challenges of the local terrain that SE VK4 poses and working even more stations.
(I have it on good authority, by May 23 renewed activity on 23cm from QG64 may also be very likely )
With this, and since it's been a while since the last uWave activation day , we could make this 23-on-23 an opportunity to also get some of the other uWave bands activated as a 'warm-up' run for the Winter VHF/UHF Field Day checking the station and overcoming any issues experienced over the Summer VHF/UHF FD.
Being a Saturday, it may also limit some participation.
With ample time to plan and protect the day in the diary, who's keen to make the May 23-om-23 a little more

I'm in, can do 23cm to 1.25cm. Might give me a bit of a drive to complete a couple of things.

Wish I had seen this post before I responded to the other 23 on 23 post.
I am planning to go up to Howells Knob (QG63JF) for the May 23 on 23 and would be willing to use the day as a Microwave test day. It has been a while since the last MAD and I did miss the Summer VHF/UHF field day so I would be happy to blow the cobwebs off the rest of my u/Wave gear. I might even get a few locals to come up and join me and have some fun with microwave.
If we could start the day around 2pm that should give most of us plenty of time to get to where we are going and setup for the day and do the testing. We would need to do some form of time table on what band will be used and when other wise no one will know who is on what band and when. if we find out how many want to go first then work out a plan for the day it should all work out nicely.
Cheers

Hi all,
I'm in, happy to radiate a signal from the valley floor using the EME dish. What are the suggested times?

Re: 23-on-23 May 23, 2015.... and 2.4GHz plus activation?
Great to see some starters.... and based on the experiences from the past 'activation' events lets keep the level of rules to a minimum, but try to commit to keeping coordination in a 'public arena' so we all can benefit.
To start getting this coordinated, can I suggest that we work to:
Times:
Start - 2pm
End - 5pm
Coordination:
Online - VKLogger iChat '23 & Above' page
2m FM - VK4RBN 147.000 has previously been commandeered due to it's relatively central location (and coverage). Peter VK4EA - would this still be acceptable?
Mobile - if out of range (and only where essential)
Bands:
23 & 13cm - 2 - 3pm then progress work higher if you have the capability... otherwise continue to seek Qs on the bands you do have
Modes:
Start phone/CW, progress to digital once we've maximised contacts on phone/CW
Portable profile:
Update on VKLogger to reflect your stated position
Please add thoughts, and closer to the day we'll collate and re-post here.
Hopefully the suggested start time allows for people to get family and other commitments out of the way and take the chance to 'punt' out a little further.
[and this allows for my bottling slot booked in at the micro brewery at 8am meaning I wont be able to collect the 4X4 until approx 10am giving me a few hours to head to the north west .... I'm still studying maps, but am trying for one of the hilltops out towards Toogoolawah or maybe back to Gus Buetel Lookout - then the next best will be near Bellthorpe, and as a last resort I will be at the ever reliable Kobble Creek - details to be posted soon )

Looking at QG63ID near Bellthorpe, primarily for good LOS with where 4EA is going for 24 and 47Ghz contacts. will probably also take the lower bands to give the gear a work out.

I might be around - with the emphasis on MIGHT. We have a few other family things happening around that date so won't be sure until the day before, but if rain is predicted then I won't be out anyway : I get enough rainy-day activity during actual FDs
IF I get out, it will only be a short local trip and probably the QG62LF 2015 JMFD spot, near Spring Mtn, but would have 2FM for liason plus 23CMs and probably 13CMs to 3CMs to put to air.

It's so hard to get the OMs on 23-on-23 Quinton.... 13-on-13 might be just a jump too far .....
And then 13 could be considered unlucky by some making the challenge even harder! !!!!

Roll call, I am working on what to pack into car. The IC970 (23cm and 13cm) and 47GHz setup is the only items on the list at the moment.
I will pack bands in between given there is somebody else to talk to. Location as per my /P profile.

23cm - IC-910, 150w Amp and 36 el yagi
13cm only..... Tvtr, 30w and Gridpack
3cm - no! Tvtr hasn't arrived and if it does, QRL this week will prevent getting it ready.
SSB, CW and digital
QTH to be confirmed tomorrow

Hi Peter
I checked out the Bellthorpe site and no good, too many trees.
If you are interested I will go up Howells with 24G and 47G to give you a contact. Would prefer to do it early on 1 - 1:30 if that suits before the other activity.

Re: 23-on-23 May 23, 2015.... and 2.4GHz plus activation?
Well I'm doing final prep's & tests of my gear this weekend as I have a busy week coming up this week.
I will be running all band from 23cm to 10Ghz. The gear will be.
23cm - IC-910H 10W 18 el portable yagi.
2.4Ghz - 20W into a Grid pack
3.4Ghz - 20W into a 600mm dish
5.7Ghz - 14W into a 600mm dish
10Ghz - 250mW into a 500mm dish
will also have an even lower power 10mW 10GHz transverter with me to try out as well. It only has a small horn antenna so not expecting too much from it. I have a feed that can be used on the 600mm dish as well so will try both and see what happens.
2m rig (ic-7000) for liaison if required
laptop for digital mode and VK Logger
Location will be Howells Knob (QG63JF) and I will be using the SCARC call sign of VK4WIS instead of my 4LHD call as I am expecting a couple of club members to join me so I'm making my end of it a bit of a club activity as we as a 23 on 23 and MAD.
It should be a good day if the weather holds out as it would be nice to have 1 MAD without rain.
Cheers

Alrighty, there's a reason to pack the 24GHz stuff as well. I may as well pack the 5.7 and 10ghz as well. 1pm is fine by me Rex.

After consulting some maps I am going to try a new site (for me) at Kluvers Lookout in D'Aguilar Range west of Dayboro. I will be operational on 2m, 1296 and 10 Ghz.

Geoff - will be keen to see how you go.
I've operated a number of times a little further north and higher only the ridge.... but a max freq of 432.
The 'window' between the trees from Kluvers Lookout is small and east/southeast facing.... but the view is great.
You'll need to set up on the 'carpark' (entry to commercial site) which will lift you up above the road and may reduce the 'window' through the trees.
Getting there from the north may also be easier.... often the gates at the Laceys Creek end are locked.
At this stage I'll be at Bellthorpe near the Community Hall.... with good take off to the east through west.
