Re: SK: VK2KU
Very sad news indeed.
Guy was one of those people working quietly away in the background for many years, doing his bit to encourage others to venture onto the higher bands and away from FM and repeaters.
Vale Guy.

Re: SK: VK2KU
Sad news indeed. Some years ago, Guy and I had a lot of e-mail correspondence about Yagi boom-effect corrections, so it was a pleasure to meet him in person at the Cambridge EME Conference in 2012. But as so often happens, there was never enough time...VK2FAK wrote:Guy VK2KU passed away this evening.

Re: SK: VK2KU
I was very saddened to hear of Guy's passing. We conversed from time to time - both via email and at GippsTech - and his thoughts and opinions were always knowledgeable and valuable.
He was truly one of the elder statesman of VHF in Australia. He never really gave any indication of the seriousness of his problem.
One thing that Guy was always keen on was the VK Gridsquare League Table. He set the bar very high on 144 MHz EME with 494 grids.
For those who have not heard of this, it is a very low-key competition, encouraging people to work more gridsquares.
Details are here: http://vhfdx.radiocorner.net/
Guy managed the Table, so his passing leaves the competition up in the air. If nobody objects, I would like to take on the management of it.
I also think it should be renamed in his honour - perhaps something like the "Guy Fletcher VK Gridsquare League Table" - a bit of a mouthful, and open to suggestions there.
I welcome any feedback.
