I've got some support for Friday's set-up and we had the caravan packed on Monday night, ready and raring to go (thanks to 4EA). This year is going to be somewhat quieter (at least until the esky gets opened on Saturday night) from a radio point of view, that is. We're only running four HF bands - ditching 15m as a waste of time - and only using dipoles. No beams this year, 100 watts barefoot...and no camp oven cook-up. Back to basics for portable operation...did I mention I was bringing the camper trailer? Can't be too "basic".
What we are doing differently is encouraging those who do turn up to bring their own rigs with them and give them a bash in a field environment. You know what it's like - people come along, get on an unfamiliar rig and buggerize around with the settings until nothing works properly. This way, they know how to operate the gear and get a taste for using their own stuff portable.
We'll see how it works.
