6m WSPR Monthly World Ranking

Post by VK2KRR »

Seeing the great support 6m WSPR is getting, perhaps its worth while posting up the 6m World Rankings over the Summer months, while conditions are 'hopping' I'll just be reviewing the stations local to VK/ZL.
It seems that it may be a little difficult to provide all 3 lists here due to risks of spots carried over from switching from other bands and listed on 6m. Therefore I may only list Two Way Reports, and possibly highlight any over seas paths.

*Two-Way Reports - In equal 1st for VK is, Lloyd VK4TVL, Brian VK5BC & Phil VK5RM/4. Our 2nd is Wayne VK6JR. And equal 3rd we have John VK2YW, Jeff VK5GF and Rick VK6XT.

Am expecting the list will grow dramatically for next month.

*Overseas Paths -

Well.... here we go with the 6m World Rankings for December 2013. What a brilliant following 6m WSPR has received over the past month. Well done to everyone, you can see how the more stations are available to more interesting the whole operation becomes. Hope your all enjoying yourselves and have found some interesting paths and in the mean time being able to leave the radio when you need to do important things at home and being able to check in to WSPRnet now and then to follow the progress.

*Two Way Reports - Up the top again is Lloyds VK4TVL station, followed up by the 'middle man' Greg VK8KMD from the middle of Australia in Alice Springs, followed up in 3rd by John VK5SIX over near Adelaide.

*Overseas Paths - there were probably more overseas paths than I'd care to go through and list for December. Some great paths were had at times to Japan, New Zealand. Also some New Zealand to Japan which was great to see. Im not sure we made it to any other countries, although im sure if there were more operators in other locations a few others would be made.

Well done guys, the full list is available here http://mardie4.100webspace.net/2_way_ws ... ex-6m.html

As suspected, there was a truck load of activity across January on 6m WSPR from Australia.

Two-Way Reports - A few changes this month in the rankings. And since I'm only listing the Two-Way Reports list, maybe can run through the top 10.
Well out ahead this month is John VK5SIX (VK5PO). 8 spots clear over north of Adelaide.
2nd spot is Phil VK5RM who is portable in SE VK4.
In equal 3rd is Len VK2CBL near Sydney with Iain VK5ZD north of Adelaide.
Up to equal 5th is Steve VK3ZAZ of Hamilton and Garry VK5ZK of Goolwa.
In equal 7th is Wayne VK2XN near Narrabri and Rob VK5ZRL near Adelaide.
In 9th is the ever present VK4TVL run by Lloyd VK4FP from Townsville.
Rounding out the 10 is Peter VK5PJ north of Adelaide.

Overseas Paths - There were numerous VK to ZL paths established. The only other path completed I think was between VK8RR in Darwin and JH1GYE in Japan.

I was intending to do these for 6m over the summer months only, so this is the last one. We'll see how the Ionosphere progresses through March and I may carry on with that one also.

There has been increasing amounts of 6m WSPR activity this month particularly seeing more stations in overseas locations which is good. The more people on the more chance of finding paths.
I will give 6m the same courtesy as 2m and put up the Spots and Two Way Reports. Its hard to do Spotters list due to ease of accidental incorrect band reporting.

Two-Way Reports - Well, Izumi JH1GYE has had a field day with all the TEP openings and as a result has came out at number 1 spot this month, 1 clear of John VK5SIX in second, then back about 6 reports in equal 3rd, but a good effort from the ever present Len VK2CBL and Lloyds VK4TVL set up. And one further back, how can I not mention Steve VK3ZAZ coming in 5th with 11 Two-way reports.

Spots Ranking - Tied up 1st place between Izumi JH1GYE and John VK5SIX, back in 3rd is a work in progress from Steve on VK3RMV beacon, then in 4th again Len VK4CBL doing well.

Overseas Paths - From what I can see there was only minimal paths to New Zealand in February, ZL1IT being the only station that could make it. Other than this we had a number of TEP to JA paths. Its been difficult to crack paths to anywhere else at this point.

Its been a pretty fantastic month and been very good to see all those participating, well done. 6m WSPR can be very quiet, but hopefully the rewards are worth the wait.

Great tool, but point of wspr is?
To enable you to make another radio contact? :?:
I prefer to look at path losses and other data.

And I am not in the scale of things because when I go to bed at night and when I am not at home I turn it all off.

Just imagine if xyl would let me run WSPR 24/7.
Yep ol smart meter would have a field day at 47 c p kw/h.

FYI Gentlemen..Len VK2CBL WSPR Station is Solar Powered..Of course only 2watts RF if you don't mind real QRP.. ...Perhaps that's the way to go to avoid all the Electricity $$$$$$$$$... Cheers Lloyd .

Results for March 2014 6m WSPR World Ranking

-Two-Way Reports-
#1 - Izumi JH1GYE, in again at number 1 with 12 spots. The TEP works wonders from Japan.
#2 - Lloyds VK4TVL station with 10 spots. Always there and good access to TEP paths.
#3 - Gordon VK5KAA, has been one of the more consistent VK5's in March with 9 spots.
#4 - Steve VK3ZAZ, being the most southerly station in the top 5, and much in the way of propagation, ended up with 8 spots.
#5 - David KD6RF & Ron N6SKM both rounding out number 5 with 7 spots.

-Spots Ranking-
#1 - Izumi JH1GYE, on numero uno again utilizing the TEP for 23 spots.
#2 - Steve's VK3RMV, newly set up full time beacon station, showing it really is worth while with 14 spots. Only a halo and 5W TX power I believe.
#3 - Jaap PA0O & Ton PA0TBR both in 3rd. EU stations will potentially take over the top 5 in the coming months I'd predict. 13 spots.
#5 - Lloyds VK4TVL. Good on ya Lloyd, the TVL station being heard by 12 for March.

Numerous other Aussies in the lists, well done to everyone who had a run at 6m WSPR during March.

I cant make to much comment about whats been happening as Ive just been letting it all unfold and looking for potential E paths for 2m. But congrats to everyone who made an effort to get their stations onto 6m WSPR through December, its been really good to see so many stations on there and its certainly made life much more exciting with all the potential paths available to be had and it only takes a slight whif of signal and things start happening.

What a great turnout with over fifty stations transmitting. For the record my antenna is a horizontal dipole fixed on the side of the tower at the ten metre level, listening east and west, to null out the local beacon on Mt Lofty 4kl to my north.
Without the distraction of chasing Dx, WSPR can run each day for about ten hours, transmitting 5W once every 20 min. On the downside is power line noise on hot windy days and stations that Tx too often, gumming up the frequency.
Keep on WSPRing
Cheers

rankings from my perspective not accurate as my set up uses a split from my LNA mast fed preamp line to the FTDX3000
I hear more than I tx as I tend like today to tune for DX and the wspr takes care of itself

Fantastic amount of stations on 6m WSPR during January. Great fun! and always good to monitor whats going on via the 6m WSPR database during the day and watch the band conditions build up in different parts and then drop away etc. A good bunch of guys on board.
Most days there is usually an opening of some description.
Well done to Phil VK5AKK, being heard well as well as having some good 'ears', though only using a dipole. If anyone has ever been to Phils QTH its quite an amazing location.

#2 - Lloyd VK4TVL
#3 - John VK5SIX
#4 - Phil VK5RM
#5 - Len VK2CBL

Well done to everyone taking part, keep up the good work

Because of a family member being fitted with an on-demand pacemaker my ops will be severely curtailed TX wise
until I do a complete emr survey of any hotspots in my location.
FYI outside is fine its all the rf crap coming down coax into building that is an issue
My delta loop on 40M is lethal for any electronic devices so its coming down.

Results for February 2015 6m WSPR World Ranking

The 6m band really seemed to go fairly quiet for me during February, I didn't pay a great deal of attention to it as there was not much going on here. From what I can see, numbers of stations on in Feb was down a fair way. There was a max of 43 two way reports in January and only 29 in February, so either much less stations or less propagation, or both.
Well done to John VK5SIX for taking out the number 1 spot in the February 6m WSPR World Ranking by 2 spots over Len VK2CBL.
