G'day all. This seems to be the best place to ask. Does anyone here chase Longwave NDBs? (ie 200 - 500kHz)

I've tried here, but there's just too much noise in any urban area these days.

Back when I was a kid, I learned a lot of my Morse by listening to NDBs. My best ever on a "boom-box" stereo with LW and SW bands on it was the Norseman, WA NDB.

I don't chase them but occasionally I come across them.
Driving trough the back of Singleton I was listening to the ABC on 576KHz and for some reason the letters SGT just kept appearing in my head.
I couldn't shake it. I'd listen to what was being said on the radio and next thing I'd be thinking "SGT" again.
Then I realised behind the audio of the ABC was a very slight hiss with morse on it. It was very faint at first but as I got closer to Singleton I realised it was an NDB.
A quick search on the smart phone when I got into range and I found the NDB on 290KHz "SGT"

The Cunderdin NDB as I understand used to transmit "CUN" in Morse with a long key down in between. Well that was until someone brought it up in Parliament.

yep every time I fly I chase them and over fly them and backtrack

old adf receivers make good receivers.

ADF rx'ers also make very good BC rx'ers as well....



I well remember listening to 2BL ABC Sydney when I was tracking between Griffith and Hay at 5000.

Mind you, I can hear 2BL (702) in the car at night here in Cairns....50kW and a big antenna helps.
