Kenwood SM-220 Restoration

Post by VK4UH »

Good morning and thanks for reading this.

To all those out there who are experienced in restoration of older equipment - I have a question

I have recently repaired and restoring a now fully functional Kenwood SM-220 Station monitor.

The case unfortunately is in a poor condition and beyond restoration with the usual T-cut and auto polish. Rust has formed through the usual Kenwood grey paint finish.

I think the only solution is to strip and respray the paintwork.

Does anyone know if that original Kenwood colour and finish is still available or if there is a suitable alternative amongst current auto paints?

I would love to know what others have used in this situation?

Hi KJ,

This might help. At the very least it gives you advice on how to replicate the original paint texture.
