Video: Rapstrap (bye bye cable ties!)

Post by VK4GHZ »

Just discovered this product: Rapstrap

Ideal for when a normal cable tie may be too rigid for small delicate things, and/or you need a small amount of tension, ie; holding down a tiny 5.8 GHz VTX board, or a motor ESC on your quadcopter!

Blackwoods ($8.85+GST Order in item): https://www.blackwoods.com.au/part/0113 ... 0mm-pkt-48
eBay: http://www.ebay.com.au/sch/i.html?_from ... _PrefLoc=1
4Cabling: http://www.4cabling.com.au/catalogsearc ... q=Rapstrap

It does have uses but being of a softer material also limitations that need to be taken into account

Yes, it depends on the application.

Here we see a Mobius camera mounted on top of a mini quad.
Noting the moongel in between, this offers a firm clamp, whilst offering some "give".

If you look closely here (black rapstrap over black ESC), you'll note the rapstraps holding down the speed controllers on the arms:

If over-tightened, a conventional cable tie would risk crushing the SMD components under the ESC heatshrink cover.
If under-tightened, a conventional cable would be useless (and therefore pointless).

Conventional cable management applications aside, having some elasticity in a cable tie can be useful.

And from 4Cabling, on my door 48 hours later!

(For any tight arses out there, eBay might be a few dollars cheaper, but from experience, you'll be waiting longer!)
