Len Steel VK3FB: Portable “super light” antennas for portable eg SOTA operation.

Len was a Radio Training Officer in the Army at Watsonia, which included teaching CW, and then a university lecturer on electronics.

Len has some very different ideas and this particular antenna includes 40M up to 10M including the WARC bands. Len has in the past gone out of his way to assist us with the design of HF antennas.

The burwood clubrooms has a fancy gas heating system and is sure to be toasty warm, and the clubs POD coffee machine will see its first main meeting hit out, for those who can't stomach Xpresso!.

we have a special "launch" of the clubs new ATV station, the meeting will be broadcast live in "4k super high def panovision, dolby surround sound" or something

"Coffee Shop" meetings are held on the third Friday of each month in our club rooms, commencing at 8:00pm.

These meetings are quite informal and generally involve discussions of a project or presentations of a technical nature.

Friday night's speaker Len Steel, VK3FB will be discussing portable “super light” antennas for use in eg SOTA activations.

He will have on hand several items that will be of interest to everyone.

If you can't make the meeting and would like to see the event, you can look at VK3RTV 1 by tuning your TV or Set Top Box to 446.500mhz.

This is a local broadcast and you may need line of sight to Mount Dandenong to receive the low power output.

Also a signal must be present for your tuner to lock in.

The EMDRC rooms are located at the Milpara Scout Group Hall, 13A McCubbin Street Burwood.

Look for the Green Letter Box, the driveway is adjacent to it.

There's plenty of parking available both in front of and at the rear of the scout hall.

Coffee, tea and biscuits are available at the meeting and the hall is well heated.

Hello to Len Steel VK3FB (if you're reading this post.)

I think using Corflute for your wire antenna winders is a brilliant idea and was wondering if you could post an image of the template you used up onto this topic for download by others so interested.

To avoid tangles and nasty kinks, people should always remember to wind the wire onto the corflute in a figure-8 pattern, and do it fairly loosely so that the wire doesn't get imbedded and sort of stuck and jammed deep in previous coils, making unwinding a pain.

The shape of your winder would probably be fairly close to Eric Methven's design that he posted up onto the 'Bush-craft UK' forum on 8th April, 2014.

Have you had experience in building or using 'pneumatic antenna wire launchers' and would your winder work and release the wire cleanly, if it was loosely, pivoted centrally near the winder handle?
