48/49mhz TV database

Post by ZL3MF »

Hi everyone, I have noticed over the past few months the 48 and 49mhz data in the early warnings link have disappeared including CCTV1 and the Warbler. So what I am looking for is an updated list of the 48.250+/_ and 49.750+/_ video carriers also other utility transmissions between 30-50mhz I would be more than happy to add anything to the early warning database. Some questions though are the Malaysian 48.250 vid's still running...have not heard them here this cycle. Has ALL the 48/49mhz TV in Europe gone QRT..I have had conflicting reports about this.
Also would be interested in any NA and SA 55.250+/_ TV information as we have heard many carriers over the past few months, I believe some of the NA CH2 stations are still operating.
Any info would be appreciated

Have found a few links but they look like the first one being very outdated http://home.iprimus.com.au/toddemslie/dx-articles.html, http://vcfm.ru/radio/fais2012_05_1ch.php

Its a labour of love
The paranoi over 6 dec places
and the inaccurate posts of where the warbler is
means that all c are taken with translation but it is a neasr estimation.

1000 stations roughly still transmit
I will only do the grids on the strong ones above 1kw

The initial problem as I see it is that like in VK the Russians have set up tiny post box translators all over.
As an example in 1989 Fraser the PM set up ABC TV CH 2 Coleraine in QF02

It had an LGT translator running 20 watts

It had four dipoles
and was on 64.250 Plus 7P

It had a range of 10 km

Away up in Swan Hill
CH2 had 10KW
Same frequency

In AD and MELB CH 2 also 64.26 and 64.24

From Chinese Russian perspective beaming at VK3 assuming they could hear CH2 they would hear 4 services on 64.24 25 and 26
Also every City had CH2 Sydney Brissy Perth

SO in country size of VK
about 50 CH2s at least
In China Russia

area is 90,000,000 sq KM
and we have 1000 plus transmitters
and about 50 hams

UPDATE

I don't think this is going to work

EG
On Sakhalin ISLAND ALONE
I have found 15 translators all listed on 49.750 and running between 1 and 100 watts
The data is either wrong or the Ruskis have tiny little villaghes served by the likes of CH2 Coleraine

What it means for US is the 49.750 TV carriers we here are everywhere and anywhere.
You cant use Signal Level and unless you know exact OFFSET as ADAM has told us many times, we are wsting our time
and it is sufficient to say it is OPEN TO ASIA where NO HAMS operate.

Even VLADIVOSTOK seems to be an anomaly with its Transmitter 50 miles away across a big gulf.
So relying on the lat and lon on the Russian website is flawed as they locations maybe wrong/incorrect/in error

So at the best the data is out dated, and I would be second guessing.

I cant even find Poronaysk on Sakhalin which I hear every other day.

Steve,
if you have some rough locations for the bigger Russian services, could we not check for the existence of a tower that is across the gulf that you mentioned via Google Earth? I know towers are not easy to spot but we might get lucky with a tower shadow?

I know this does not prove that its on the air but it might help us with the possible locations for them. Maybe its time for one of us to take a Russian holiday with a 49MHz receiver

Hi Mike,
as posted on chat was told by ME operators that the Dubai 48.250 went DVB-T higher frequency (last heard here 5 Oct 2013).
Still have 48.239.7 here at times from Iran and 48.260.3 HS Twins Thailand have been seeing 48.275 Video carrier last few weeks not sure where this is from as I don't recall seeing this one before, Malaysia 48 long time not heard as I recall during last cycle or may be bit before Local comms guy from here in Darwin (Peter ? had call sign as well) moved to that region to upgrade TX sites in Malay & Indonesia.
49's I don't monitor too much as there are too many and always in here even when conditions low can hear something most of time on 49.750, this time of year S-9+40 of evening a which saturate band when beaming 330 degrees.

Fair point Steve but there are some vid's that stand out like saw thumbs, lets go through a few.
- 49.7500 The Warbler is the location of this correct?
- 49.7440mhz This one is on its own and often is one of the strongest in ZL3 (does not seen to be any information on this offset)
- 49.74800 This is another one on its own and often hear it… (does not seen to be any information on this offset)
- The drifter 49.7493+/_ has a slow drift to it and not a clean carrier (not the warbler)
- 49.75000 here in ZL3 this one can be on its own and often is the first to appear and the last to go often we hear it in the noise most afternoons and when there is a M/S burst it jumps up very strong with other offsets behind it...so is it running lots of power or is it in a obscure location?
- The drifter 49.7493+/_ has a slow drift to it and not a clean carrier (not like the warbler)
- 49.7501 Come in often is it CCTV1 and is the grid correct?? We don’t normally hear any other carriers on the same frequency…just the one.
- 49.7550 Another one on its own clean carrier usually is in when the 49.7440 is in (maybe there is a geographic tie-up??)
- 49.75600 have heard this a few times but not this year
- 49.7603 have heard these in the past (usually only one carrier) but quiet rare here

More to come

Cheers Mark. Question do you hear the 49.7440, 7480, 7493 (drift) 7501, 7550.7560, 7603 these are the one we hear in ZL3 would be interested in your comments.

Mike I will take a look over weekend will note the frequency's and post what I see, I will grab one of our TV spectrum scopes (Promax Prolink4C) from workshop today when I go down and take a look with this as well as it has all the offsets etc for most systems around the world, it may not resolve the video due to sync issues from multiple carriers & multi path RX will give it a try.

Cheers for that, the lonley 49.7500 in at the moment and the only one.....this must be a clue

Have a classic example of the one on 49.7500mhz 0400GMT (only one carrier)...it is in the noise all the time and goes to S9 with M/S pings...there must be a clue here, we have 1 carrier no others???

Over 700 transmitters

Post by VK3ZAZ »

I again refer to the likes of ABC TV Coleraine in a town of 1200 people on a little hill with two stacked dipoles running 100 watts.

There are dozens of these in Russia and even if I spend the time to break down the grid squares so you can draw the lines on the Logger reality is no one in Asiatic Russia operates legally because there proliferation of TV transmitters on 49.750 plus minus all the offsets is hundreds

Here is some of the raw culled data.

I cut out over 300 below 100 watts some towns have two transmitters one on vertical one of Horizontal

They are spread from Berring Strait to Urals over 90,000,000 SQ KM

Where no Russian can legally operate and very few others do EX8 EY8 etc

There are a coupe, dozen Chinese on air and they must have the same constraints as Russia given the number found in Russia

There were over 1000 in the data base and 790 useful

The offsets are incorrect based on my observations

all it will tell you is band is open to a region where transmitting is illegal.

Without the offsets and a SPAC LAB display or FTDX3000 1200 to resolve to 1HZ as Adam always said it is pointless and bound to produce error.

Here are some of the culls

if you want the excel spreadsheet it is sorted by Power and Location

I have not the time to convert 700 locations into locators it will take days

And when I pasted in the raw datya stupid excel converted the LONG values to scientific notation and nothing I could do would convert them back so 3.7E 38 is 37N37.. :?:
