WSPR Help Needed - Mac OSX

Post by VK/9V1CJ »

For too many reasons, my virtual device (Windows XP/Virtual Box) is rejecting my Signalink's audio USB pass-through so I can't use any Windows software at the moment, damned.

Has anyone here been able to get it up and running on a Mac? I believe I have everything down pat including the hamlibs, only problem I'm left with is determining which USB port to set up in the software.. I've spent 24+ hours on this and am up to my eyeballs, short of purchasing a Windows laptop just for WSPR.

no. i could get it to RX, but never TX, via mac. on the mac build of wspr. http://machamradio.com/2011/02/wspr-now ... e-for-osx/

i had success in parallels virtual machine and windows 7 and wspr, but i had a cheap netbook that was not being used enough *drives the weather station - that became the wspr laptop..

a pain, because juggling laptops is a pain!>

Yeah, it seems to be that way so far. I'll update once I try every single "USB port" listed there. If manually trying out 12 of them doesn't work I think the issue can be traced back to the software.

Something to do with the cat support. Possibly. Maybe try hamlib/omnirig in virtual machine as well.

Ok, I've spend a lot of time tinkering with it and still no success. VK3BQ I believe you're right - it's the WSPR program itself.

On a virtual machine (VirtualBox) I'm unable to get the host to pass through audio from my Signalink to the guest, so Windows is kind of out of the question too. It's frustrating. I could get the CAT cable to pass through, but it's as though Mac OSX has grabbed hold of the USB soundcard.

Damn, buying a new laptop just to operate WSPR? I'll need to find a Windows XP laptop too (pretty much non-existent). What a headache.

Im using Mac OS X 10.7 and WSJT and its going through a Signalink's audio USB box. I would suggest removing the entry in the CAT port: (/dev/ttyUSB3) entry.

You are not alone: Linux WSJT and WSJT-X have sound card issues:
WSJT requires 11025 b/s sample-rate. -- available only on a USB Behringer UCA202 developed by Burr-Brown from TI, a USB Audio CODEC example.
WSJT-X requires 12000 b/s. -- available from an Ensoniq ENS1371 PCI card.

So, which sound cards work on Fedora 19 x86_64 ? You have got to be real LUCKY!!!
Not Intel HDA or clones, not C-Media CM108 USB dongles, not Creative X-Fi or Sound Blaster.

So, in real life, WSJT and WSJT-X are, at present, not useful on current Linux.

The new WSJT-X does CAT control. That is good.

Can anyone help the developers to fix these programming issues?

Or, point us to cards that DO work. Has to be USB for Raspberry Pi.

Diagnostics: user$ grep -i rates -r /proc/asound

Have you tried Parallels and Windows? I use this set up to run WSJT with a Signalink USB with no problems. It is very stable however yes you have to fork out some cash. It may be handy for you if you want to run multiple OS such as Windows and Linux?

Cheers

A new mac version was released late last year. This works much better on the mac. Takes some tinkering to get going. But works. http://physics.princeton.edu/pulsar/K1JT/wspr.html
