Only time will tell if its any use

I have it on an OPTUS wifi but have to ensure that doesn't exceed 2 GB in spots uploaded in 30 days

I use a GPS Mouse for locking the time but it also had issues and I had to mount it on side of a metal door, it just would not work facing up, again due to high emr fields

I can go to a quieter site but its lower in altitude by 200 feet and only had one dtv 50 watt tx.

if you log RMV let me know please.

if you are strong enough to get into it you will see your report

I can get a decode with the aerial disconnected in the FT3000 not able to hear the tone.

Antenna is Vertical as it has to be grounded due to high emr.

Not too many making it in due to the radio smog on the mountain

Dummys guide to WSPR

Post by VK3ZAZ »

1x TS680S cheap effective and stable
Thanks to Lloyd for this advice as used at VK4TVL.

1x 10A supply sw2 mode with cooling fan.
E machine laptop with three USB ports
Windows XP

K1JTs WSPR 2.0

An OPTUS or equiv WIFI hotspot stick.

I could use the Radio USB Stick for Timing but if it drops out (often with Optus who DO NOT have Battery back ups on cells over 2 hours)

So I chose this for my timing..

One of these GPS dongles

WSPR Limits

Post by VK3ZAZ »

50MHZ
Out to extended ground wave limits and that's about it non enhanced.
Tropo debateable, 2M tropo has always been better around this area than 6M
6M tropo to VK5 and VK7 always the poor cousin to 2M.

6M WSPR has defined limits non enhanced.
It also seems to have defined limits enhanced.
The max signal I have seen on wspr logger is under 10,000K
Compared with HF it shows WSPR has limits for hams on 6M band in that ext gw or tropo is the limit around 400-500k
Then we have es skip, but everyone knows about es skip.
The other area is shines at is the early warning you gte before you maybe able to make a two way qso.
But again this is just a point.
I don't think wspr will be the tool to permit you a heads up to work a new country.
No one risks running two minute wspr transmissions during a f2 opening to USA e.g. like occurred a few months ago.
They all played it safe and stayed on CW?SSB.
Correct me but I havenet seen a US or KH6 wspr transmission on 6M from VK
JA and UA0 are the only two received.???

Re: VK3RMV is on WSPR

Post by VK2KRR »

As far as I am aware the path has not been made between Aust & USA on 6m WSPR, or EU.
It has been done between USA and EU.
There has recently been some paths from FR1GZ and FR stations to 4X1RF.
There has been no Hawaii to VK because there is no one using 6m WSPR from Hawaii.

Part of the issue is, there are not enough stations using 6m WSPR in places we need them to be. And many of the people that are using 6m WSPR (in other countries) are using an omni vertical or some other multiband dipole that they use with other bands, so there very inefficient on 6m. The larger well equipped stations are not using WSPR.
Stations like yourself and Lloyd VK4FP and others are helping to slowly make more people take notice of what your doing.

The other part of the issue is that the band conditions simply aren't good enough in the areas of the world that we need them to be. :x

There is no real point trying to force a signal through where it doesn't want to go, with huge power. I have no doubt the 5W from the RMV site on WSPR will be plenty when the conditions warrant it.
If your concerned about the cost of having RMV connected to report spots to the web, there is always the option of letting it run without internet connection and people who hear its transmission will report its signal presence to the web.

I know of other clubs now that are investigating creating similar WSPR beacons at their sites, but will let them announce when they know what there doing.

Steve,
I also should say that I dont think you efforts have been appreciated enough by others.
No doubt a lot of time, effort, investigation and experimentation has been conducted by yourself into setting VK3RMV up as a WSPR beacon on 6m.
Its not an easy task for many to even get set up at home to run WSPR correctly. Yet you have created a beacon able to run by itself with correct timing through GPS and good freq stability. So well done.

Im not sure how you have it all set up. But I am unable to see VK3RMV on the WSPR map at present. Is it always on and available? Is it set up so that the only time its presence is seen on the WSPR map is if someone reports it or it hears someone?
Or is it just turned off ?
