Perrin VK3XPT Testing The Limits!
As a matter of interest, Perrin VK3XPT in Melbourne, conducted some very low power WSPR tests with Derek.
Perrin writes -
"Today I progressively went from 10w, to 5w, 2w, 1w, 500mW, 200mW, 100mW, 50mW and finally 20mW, and I was successful on all these levels, only moving to the next level once I had made the contact... It took some time and concentration, but it is all good fun - and all in the spirit of pushing the limits!"

Hi Leigh,

Thanks for the post. In my testing, I actually did go from 10W straight to 2W, as the data shows. I did not do any 5W tests, despite my original comment! (I skipped a 5W test in the interest of time, as I wanted to get to the lowest power level possible before the path closed.) Sorry for any confusion!

Rob reporting that he was using an IC746 and a simple 2/70cm colinear vertical omni to capture the single spot.

Bight Path opening evening 28th and morning 29th Dec 2013.
Only path crossing the Bight was between VK6DZ and VK2KRR. I first heard Dereks signal at 12.38am EDST and last decode was at 06.36am, not long after sunrise signals disappeared. Derek's strongest signal was a -9dB at 02.10am.

Just to add to Leigh's post above, I also had a partial JT65B contact with VK6JR, but there were a number of others including ZL2 all trying at the same time. I really need more antenna, as another 6dB or so gain would make all the difference over my current temporary 4el on a 1m boom.

It's really a great pity that their hasn't been much uptake of WSPR in ZL, as they were reporting hearing the VK3 beacons at good strength while we were trying to work VK6. I think it's only a matter of time before (PROVIDING AT LEAST A FEW ZLs GET ACTIVE ON WSPR) we see VK6s and ZLs hearing each other each other on that mode and hopefully translating that to 2-way SSB, CW or JT65 contacts.

Another Bight path opening beginning evening of the 23th Feb and closing midday of the 24th Feb.

This one caught Brian VK5BC by surprise, he was beaming east not west. No signals made it to Wayne VK6JR on this occassion.
By the way, this was VK5BC/p at Corny Point, PF85mc, just above sea level.

Tropo - 15 openings (each opening from different weather systems, openings over a number of days from same high cell counted as 1)
