Logging programs for the new WIA awards program?
Logging programs for the new WIA awards program?
The new on-line process for WIA awards does not accept Excell files so I will have to move from my old paper logs to a computer logging program (bit of a shock after nearly 50 years of paper logs). I don't need rig or rotator control, just something that will generate the files to upload to the WIA program.
It needs to be simple enough for a seriously computer-challenged, semi-geriatric to use on an on old laptop. Ideas please.

Vkcl can work as a simple stand alone logging program. http://www.mnds.com.au/vkcl/
Others that are more complex will even take your excel as as a text file and add that to the log.
Just like the national library has done to its historic collection. All digital now.

And you can always just convert the excel to adif http://www.qsl.net/ab2rf/Excel-ADIF-conversion.html

Hi Andrew
The Excell file I am referring to is the WIA awards program spreadsheet not my operating log as such so I am not sure it will convert but I guess I can give it a try.

VQLog is a good logging programme for the VHF operator, as the functionality supports grid squares quite well.
Something HF orientated logging programmes may not handle well.
The link to it has been on the Logger's Link page for a number of years!
It can import ASCII text files, so you can always massage your data around in Excel and import it.

Worth a try?

Another vote for VQlog.
Very easy to tailor to your requirements and you can remove fields that you don't want to use as well as changing the tab sequence for each field. Loads of other nifty features.

I use HRD remember the wia awards site prefers you to upload much easier than the spread sheet. you only really need to enter the qso's you want for awards but once you get an electronic log going you wont look back seriously. if you are doing electronic you should consider Lotw and possibly eqsl and well you might have electronic confirmations waiting for you but you wont know till you upload to Lotw.
some other logs

http://www.dxlabsuite.com/ quite complex but probably one of the best free logging programs.

OF THE FREEBIES
Dx Labs is neat...I have been testing it with the VK4KW logs to see what's wrong with it - has a lot of functionality.
One that has a lot of happy users is Log4OM http://www.pisto.it/wordpress/log4om-en/
Log 4 old men http://www.eham.net/reviews/detail/10506
Logger 32 is simple and does have a good multi mode interface
W3KM sort of qualifies as it does do have rig support category ...http://qsl.net/w3km/genfeats.htm
For simple, yet powerful Logger32 - has interface to EQSL and LOTW, does have rig support if you need it, and digital multi modes.

This is probably the key feature, given that shift to PC logging is for awards purposes. eQSL and LOTW upload function will help you cast a much wider net to count towards the awards.VK4TS wrote: For simple, yet powerful Logger32 - has interface to EQSL and LOTW, does have rig support if you need it, and digital multi modes.

I just had a look at Amateur Contact Log by N3FJP. Anybody use it? It seems to have all I need, and very importantly, semi-geriatric, computer-challenged friendly input screen and help files. Anybody use it?

I've used it for awhile now and it is a good logging program. You can also customise it to suit your needs and add your own additional fields.
