“Radio Observations of Meteors" - EMDRC Feb 7th

Post by VK3BQ »

EMDRC February Meeting, February 7th, 2014 Willis Room Meeting

Jim Pollock VK3OX will be discussing “Radio Observations of Meteors".

Jim originally compiled it and presented it to the Astronomical Society of Victoria

As well as looking at the geometry of meteor paths in general, it does contain some very interesting recordings of meteor bursts on 2-metres recorded by Adrian VK4OX (my brother) in Maleny, just north of Brisbane.
You can really hear the Doppler effect of the meteor as it enters the upper atmosphere

Meeting is held at the Willis Room, Civic Centre, City of Whitehorse. Nunawadding coffee and a chat at 7:30pm, main meetign starts at 8pm.

thanks

Will this presentation be recorded?

It would be really good to see this on U-tube

Sounds like it will stir up some activity! It's an amazing mode of propagation that has the potential to be used by all!

I used to run some freeware software (MAnalyser) that counted and graphed meteor pings similar to a seismogram; mainly looking for peaks in showers, and secondary/new unknown peaks, by listening to pings from distant TV Tx's.

Can't do that any more!

Might not be a bad idea first to check with the presenter to see if he agrees with the presentation being recorded.
