20W 3.4 GHz Power Amplifier

Post by VK4GHZ »

Looking for an affordable PA for your 3.4 GHz transverter system?

There are plenty of Toshiba UM2683B 20W 3.5 GHz power amplifiers available on eBay, that become a plug & play solution for 3.4 GHz.
For USD$155 + postage, these become an easy no-brainer way to generate some grunt!

More info and pictures on my web site: http://vk4ghz.com/toshiba-3-5-ghz-20w-pa/

You will also find a link to the pdf that describes how to modify these to 60W output with a bias mod.

I happen to notice that eBayer AECISOUTH has a Toshiba 3.4 GHz power amplifier module (as per above) up for auction, right now.
He stopped offering these as an auctions a few months ago. I suspect they were fed up auctioning them off for much less that the 'buy it now' asking price.
The market determines what something is worth however!

Be quick, ends soon.
Otherwise, bookmark this seller for any other future auctions.

For cheap power on 3.4 GHz, these Toshiba modules are a no-brainer.

Posted as an FYI.

I have one of these: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/331075773151
Functionally similar to the Toshiba device and (currently) plenty available.
Comes with the heat sink 8)

Iain,

I have one of those as well, and I bought mine when the AuD was in much better shape!

Likewise use the same 3.4 GHz Pa's that VK5ZD mentioned above.
Three of us in ZL are using them.
Its was found that the amps could vary in output.
Some 22 Watts, another 28 Watts because we believe in service they were throttled back to a set output.
We noticed them a year ago and apologize for not mentioning on the logger or the VK microwave reflector.
I have a spare just in case the one in my TRV fails for whatever reason or the supply runs out.
Have this VK3XDK 9 cm TRV ready to run toward VK into a 1.1 metre dish but only if I am portable.
If I take the 1.1 metre dish /p for 1296 will have the 9 cm also and mandatory.
Users the VK3 TRV and PLL and I am very happy with the performance of the whole unit.
Best DX so far 551 km internal ZL.
9 cm PA in VK3XDK
