AIS Tab on DXmaps site

It would appear that other areas are starting to realise how good AIS Marine Tracking can be as a propagation indicator. Gabriel EA6VQ has added an AIS tab to the DX Maps site. Some people may find this easier to follow rather than sifting through info on Marine Traffic.com. I have downloaded the AIS DX Aggregator program Gabriel mentions and am waiting for a AIS signal to come through to see if its going to work. Others may also wish to give it a try.

In the past weeks I have been thinking about how useful can AIS be for detecting propagation openings on VHF, especially for maritime tropo. The result has been adding an specific tab for AIS to DXMAPS (http://www.dxmaps.com/spots/map.php?Lan ... &HF=N&GL=N) for showing the ships received above 300 km (what can be considered a DX in AIS). A listing of the latest received ships can also be seen at http://www.dxmaps.com/spots/map.php?Frec=AIS&ML=L

I wonder if some of you could be interested to contribute with the “DX spots” of your station, so that DXMAPS can show the propagation conditions in your area.

Doing it is very easy. You simply have to download the “AIS DX Aggregator” program from http://www.dxmaps.com/aisdxaggregator.html and follow the steps indicated there. If you use ShipPlotter it should not take you more than a few minutes to starting uploading the “spots” automatically.
