Not hearing Adelaide beacons

Post by VK2KRR »

G'day
Just to raise this with whom it may concern.
There is a number of people who have said to me "whats the go with the Adelaide 2m beacon, I cant hear it any more".
I have noticed this as well from here. I have probably heard or seen a signal from the beacon only once since it was put back up (I know its moved). Interestingly in my travels over the weekend, I had 3 other stations from the Mildura area say this to me. VK3KYF, 3TJ, 3ATS.
Perhaps we are on a null point or something is blocking it to the NE and East ?
Yet at 3BJMs he could hear it all afternoon Saturday.
Just not like it used to be, I dont really worry about listening for it now as I know I will most probably not hear it. Was just interesting to pick up these extra comments from the Mildura guys as they are much closer than me too.

G'day

I've heard similar comments. My observations are from Corny Point, about 150kms west of the beacons they are similar to how I previously heard them, but hard to tell as I can always hear them and the strength varies with conditions. At the home QTH, Gawler about 45kms north of the the beacons I think they are weaker, again very hard to quantify.
