Marine Tracking Propagation Snapshots

Post by VK2KRR »

Here are a few 12 month snap shot propagation graphs from a number of different 162 MHz Marine Tracking AIS stations in different locations of Australia for your reference as to where the past 12 month propagation peaks have been. These are mostly tropo paths.

Firstly we have a look at graphs from Cairns, Townsville and Mooloolaba coastal path.
Peak season approx September to February. Approx peak late December.
Cairns - Townsville - Mooloolaba

Greymouth NZ, Port Maxquarie and Byron Bay.
Peak season around September to start of February. Approx peak around start of January, possibly earlier for Byron Bay.
Greymouth NZ - Port Macquarie - Byron Bay

Last is The Rock, Adelaide and Bunbury
Peak season September to March/April. Actual peak for The Rock & Adelaide around New Year. Bunbury around and of January. Keeping in mind majority of VK6APK Bunbury reports are to the north to Indonesia rather than across the Bight.

Found a good looking graph from Geelong station 106, clearly showing the winter time dolrums and showing the current improving propagation trend.
I've highlighted the dark winter days of low propagation in a black trough. You can see its been slowly rising back up again through August.
