Digital Mode signal reporting

Post by VK2FAK »

Hi All...

I had only just heard of this, not sure how wide spread it is or if it is even used..?

I thought the S/N would have been the way to go if available on the software...but hey...

hi John, that might be a good way to go. Various digi modes have totally different methods of giving a signal report eg 26 for FSK (still not sure what that is meant to be) others use various types of signal to noise ratio but they all seem different. I like the idea on the webpage

Wayne

The meaning of the 2 number report used for MS

The report consists of two numbers:
First number (burst duration)
2 : up to 5 sec.
3 : 5 - 20 sec.
4 : 20 - 120 sec.
5 : longer than 120 sec.

Second number
(signal strength)
6 : up to S3
7 : S4 - S5
8 : S6 - S7
9 : S8 and stronger

The above was found on Pg 4 of the following PDF.
