Roger VK2ZRH, FB re the homebrew receiver. Did you get any assistance from the late Harry Roach re the build? I think you were very active in the WIA SWL Group in those days.
I remember Harry ! I don't recall getting any direct assistance, other than him suggesting various articles I should find and read (there was one IIRC titled "The Like New Mixer", which appeared in AR magazine). There were others who made suggestions, too.

Currently on my bench is a rather stubborn early 1950's Sportco Clubmaster Martini with extraction problems.

I'm glad someone else noted that..
I've got a Warn XD9000 low mount electric winch in bits for a rebuild, and about 50 neoprene stubby holders waiting for me to build a new stubby holder holder..
found an interesting circuits(s) about modulating a laser , didnt take long to design and make a couple of circuit boards and I had a laser pointer spare , used a photo transistor $6 from jaycar .it works well now to try and see what distance I can get ! good fun cheers mark VK2AMS
Gave up on the FC757AT so now I have 2 Arduino projects going.
1 Sweeper antenna analyser waiting on DDS to arrive
2 Arduino cw keyer ready to setup on 6 meters beacon
This is what's on my work bench at the moment.
Slowly but surely coming together is the VK3XDK 2.4Ghz Transverter.
This is my first venture into microwave apart from using 23cm. It may not be up and running by the 28th July for the Microwave Activity Day ( MAD ) but should be working by Nov for the Spring VHF/UHF Field day or at least that's the plan. I been getting a lot of useful info from the forum. My future plan is to have both 2.4Ghz and 5.7Ghz in the same box by late 2014. It's a very steep learning curve for me so stay tuned on the forum for a lot of dumb questions from me. I am very badly hearing impaired now so I want to give microwave a go before it's too late. The 10Mhz OCXO arrived while I was doing this post so that will be the next bit to set up.

Front panel of the box. Setting it up so I can use my Heil Headset as some of you may know I'm badly hearing impaired.
The box is a little empty at the moment with a few parts still on the way. Plenty of room for the future expansion with 5.7Ghz.
My working 1 - 30 MHz VFO in selectable frequency steps. Its the AD7C VFO with a couple of modifications to suit the encoder I had.
Consists of an Arduino Uno a $4 AD9850 DDS. Works very well but the output is slightly low at bottom and top of its frequency range.
Good output from 5.5 MHz to 27 MHz. But all in all happy with performance.
Dummy load 50 ohms with RF Termination.
After the holidays and full stock of spare parts, I am come back in the 9Q land with the construction.

Fresh from the workbench is a lightweight 10GHz portable system. This is a repackaging of a transverter I already had (VK3XDK version) into a box built behind a panel antenna and mounted on a camera tripod.
