Radio Australia digital test transmission

Post by VK3TYG »

Hi guys.
I have been informed that Radio Australia, tonight 19th May, will broadcast a series of digital test transmissions at two different times.
They will be using the MFSK16 & MFSK32 modes. MFSK16 will be first, followed by MFSK32.
Schedules are:-

0830-0835 UTC (1830-1835 EST) - 7410 & 11945
1230-1235 UTC (2230-2235 EST) - 9580 & 12095

Have a go at decoding these transmissions, reception reports are welcome.
Not sure if this will become a regular feature or not.

Cheers, Chris.

Hi Guys,
Can you point those of us who are not so familiar with these digital modes pointers as to what software etc we can use to decode these test transmissions ?

Thanks

It looks like VK2TPM is using good old Fldigi which can decode both MFSK16 & MFSK32.
Its a Mac and PC compatible app so we can all do the decoding :D

This link will take you to the download site:

That is most interesting.

Many thanks.

The Bureau of Met are doing the same kind of thing, but using DRM.

Looks like Nigel (from Radio Oz) chose a better mode...

:-)

Most interesting.

A first for me. Never successfully decoded any digital transmission before.

This could be strangely fascinating.

:)

Received the MFSK16 transmission fine here is Adelaide, didn't get much of the MFSK32 transmission very well though. I was using DM780.

Received on 9580 KHz.

Signal was 579. Emailed them a transcript of what I received and an audio recording of their signal as requested.

I wonder what their output power would have been?

Pretty sure it's 100kW out of Shepparton.
